Henry Darrow Renews Old Aquaintances !
heroforhire-196203 March 2019
Henry Darrow shines in this tale of Alejandro encountering an old love from the past...

The neat part is that the episode makes use of clips from a 1969 episode of 'High Chapparral' , featuring Darrow as his HC character Monolito, in falling love ...with the very same actress appearing here in this 1991 'Zorro' episode !

Thus, the flashbacks are particularly effective, as 'young Alejandro' falls in love with 'Mercedes', and the romance is recalled by the same people across 22 years of filming.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is nothing. There's no adventure, no mystery, no intrigue, nothing of interest. It's below the series' usual standard. That's bad, because the series' usual standard is low.

When Don Alejandro's love, I can't remember her name because she is so cardboard and meaningless, dies he places her "body" on the couch, with a pillow under her head and a blanket over her torso. Then, when she's shown in close up, she's not just breathing: she's breathing heavily.

I guess the actress couldn't hold her breath for 5 seconds.

Zorro has little to do other than step in at after the bad guy shoots DA's love. Later, Diego quips that "there would be two graves here" instead of one - DA would also be dead - if Phillipe hadn't have run for Diego/Zorro.

Huh? The bad guy was deflated after he shot the woman. The fight had ended. The bad guy wouldn't have killed DA.

Awful. Awful. Awful.
