I WANNA' BE LIKE DAD, I THINK, MAYBE?
tcchelsey4 November 2023
This is one of those episodes that comes along with every sitcom -- following in your mom or dad's footsteps. The catch here is it's just talk. Greg has to write a paper for school... so why not make it interesting. He inspires to be a builder, like his dad. Not. Not. Not.

The fun thing here is Greg's coming up with wild blueprint plans --with a moat(?) -- to have Mike encourage him to try another profession. The side story has Peter and Jan opting to be a doctor and nurse, and Peter's self exam reveals he may be at deaths door! Christopher Knight is always so over the top. It actually may have been more episodic had Pete written the paper, because y'all know there would be some really goofy ideas. Don't forget the mini volcano in the back yard a few episodes back.

I agree with the notes as Peter does NOT have poison ivy, rather poison oak, which is more common in southern California. Great trivia question.

Well written by the famous husband and wife team of Burt and Adele Styler, who did many classic episodes for such shows as ALL IN THE FAMILY and MASH.

This should bring back memories of all those painful essays we had to write in school. And then count all the words!

SEASON 4 EPISODE 9 remastered ABC/Paramount dvd box set.

Greg The Architect

Greg writes a school composition saying his career choice is the same as Mike's, architecture.

One of the lesser episodes, not many laughs or pathos here, and the first weak show of great Season 4. Mike is proud Greg wants to follow in his footsteps but Greg wrote it because he couldn't think of anything. The other kids (except for Marcia) also choose their careers- Peter and Jan want to be a doctor and nurse, Bobby an astronaut and Cindy a model. Only amusing scene is when Peter misdiagnoses himself with a fatal disease he saw in a medical book.
