Mike Tao reads from the boy's blog about what happens to him in the hospital. He mentions a procedure- a transfusion of white blood cells. Red blood cells can be transfused, as well as platelets. White blood cells are "transfused" with a bone marrow transplant after first being killed off by chemotherapy and/or radiation. White blood cells are part of the body's immune system and cannot be simply transfused from one person to another. The donated cells will attack the recipients' body as being foreign. This sometimes happens even in marrow transplants and is called Graft versus Host disease.
