The film opens with brilliant colors in live action with children and their Mom and Dad in front of the decorated Christmas tree. The woman's son asks for her to tell the story of Jesus' birth. In this scene, the director and producer seem to be going for realism, as opposed to the way it would have been presented by a major motion picture company or TV show at the time. In this short film, much is covered. Following the live action, though, is what might be called "no motion" as it is basically a camera zooming in and out on Nativity figurines. Besides Mary, Joseph and Jesus, we see King Herod, the shepherds, and then the three wise men. The miniature background sets are very good. The only real "motion" is a flickering flame in two scenes. It's almost like a slide show, similar in vein to, La Jetee(French, 1963), which was very well received. We do go back briefly to the live action kids as they ask about the three wise men. This is not your usual format for a film and its difference has a positive effect. The narration(by the mother) is excellent. Picture quality is superb.
