Every morning for two weeks, the Ropers' newspaper is tied with a nice note and tiny rose. They came from Jeffrey's rosebush, who is angered by the "rose theft". While in their attic, the Ropers find sleeping a mysterious girl, Jenny Ballinger (Stevie Vallance). She says she came through an unlocked window and been sleeping there for the past two weeks. Jenny is the one who delivers their newspaper and quickly wins over a sympathetic Helen. Helen insists she stays until she finds another place, while Stanley is afraid she's a "dope fiend". He reluctantly agrees to let her stay another night. Stanley's car breaks down at the shopping center and he asks Jenny to drive and pick him up. Jenny fixes the car herself, but still can't win him over. Some harsh words from Jeffrey makes an impact.
