Henry Darrow played Zorro in "Zorro and Son", and he provided the voice for Don Diego/Zorro in the animated "New Adventures of Zorro". His portrayal of Zorro in this episode is reminiscent of Darrow's ortrayal of the past his prime Zorro in "Zorro and Son". He tries hard, but he can't quite pull off all the Zorro maneuvers.
But this episode does a much better job with the flubbed moves than "Zorro and Son" ever did. DA, as a Don Quixote-like Zorro, defeats a notorious criminal and his brother by bumbling around: it's a series of fortunate missteps by DA Zorro. The fighting and choreography in these scenes is better than usual for the series.
It's a fun episode that mixes Don Quixote with Zorro. At one point DA refers to the Alcalde as "he of the woeful countenance". Don Quixote was called the knight of the woeful countenance by Sancho in the books, and by the innkeeper in the movie "Man of La Mancha".
