Don't Try And Second-Guess the Job!
JasonDanielBaker22 April 2013
Toronto crime reporter Tom Kirkwood (Allan Royal) writes about the exploits of his childhood friend - local police Detective Kevin O'Brien. Kirkwood's column is entitled 'Night Heat' and his narration reading the words from his column about the latest big case is the framing device for this stylish 1980s cop show.

This episode was about freelance photographer Shelly Lang (Matsu Anderson) who inadvertently photo-documented a murder whilst taking pictures of a wedding reception on a boat. Stalked by the killers and their boss - mobster/restaurateur Lenny Crane (Geza Kovacs), O'Brien and his earnest yet eager young partner Detective Frank Giambone (Jeff Wincott) must protect her and help crown prosecutor Dorothy Fredericks (Wendy Crewson) convince her to testify.

In keeping with the character of the show Kirkwood and O'Brien work together where it makes sense. Here O'Brien arranges to plant something in Kirkwood's column to flush out Crane.

Any who doubt that Canada has talented or appealing actors should take note of those assembled in this production particularly Lynda Mason Green (The Siren of Sarnia!) as Detective Fleece Toland. She augmented a terrific cast of veteran Canadian actors.
