gritty and beautiful film
apleibo14 August 2006
Ellie is the latest award-winning short by Matthew Garrett. It is a most gritty, yet beautiful film. It explores the difficult and often uncomfortable subject of abortion. Darcy Miller, who plays Ellie, gives a splendid performance. She clearly demonstrates the twisted emotional state demanded by this film. Matthew Garrett does not shy away from the gut-wrenching gore, which in this case, is quite necessary. The story is carefully crafted, producing a true cathartic journey for the audience. Though this movie may be upsetting for some, it is definitely worth watching. The characters evoke a great deal of emotion from the viewer, and all are sure to have strong feelings about the content, one way or the other. This movie is sure to stick with you long after you have watched it.

Captivating and Emotional
sequel2 September 2006
The casting in this movie is phenomenal. Darcy Miller makes you believe that you truly exist in her character's sad world, and takes you on a journey through emotion and circumstance. It's been a long time since an actor has made me forget everything around me and want to reach out and join her. The scenery is perfect, and the supporting cast lend seasoned talent to this modern American tragedy. Matthew Garrett proves himself to be a talent to look out for in the industry. His next short, Elmer & Iris, currently in production, should be an equally superb production. From the writing to the lighting, this short film is a must see for anyone.
