Billy becomes Boris
ShadeGrenade27 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Chatting up the lovely 'Susan' ( Anita Carey a.k.a. 'Pat' from 'I Didn't Know You Cared' ), Billy makes his wildest lie yet - he claims to have a twin brother named Boris. Susan is intrigued and wants to meet him. Billy has to dress up in order to pass himself off as his twin...

This was the last episode of Season One and I wish it had also been the last episode ever. Season Two had its moments, but came nowhere near equalling Season One. The idea of Billy impersonating an imaginary twin might have originated in the pages of the Marvel comic 'Daredevil' in which lawyer Matt Murdoch invented a 'twin' named Mike in order to deflect suspicion from the fact he was really a superhero. 'Boris' ( what a great name for a scoundrel! ) has a moustache and wears a white suit and glasses and looks like a hybrid of 'Marty Hopkirk' and 'Jason King' from 'Department S'. He makes a date with Susan at a cinema, loses her and goes off with her friend 'Joyce' ( the late Susan Littler ). Barbara is there too ( Billy forgot he had a date with her also ) and Billy's parents and grandmother.

How did Billy get Mr. Shadrack's stone angel into the cloakroom of a cafe without anyone noticing?

Why I think this should have been the last episode is mainly because of the final scene. Billy ( as 'Boris' ) is in a cafe with 'Maureen' ( Lynne Miller ) telling her about his twin brother Billy. She is fascinated. Billy realises he does not need to lie in order to get girlfriends, just be himself. We see an image of Billy larking about in Trafalgar Square accompanied by the show's theme song. It would have been the perfect end to the series. But the ratings ensured that Billy would be back in late 1974, and that I think was a bit sad. Keith and Willis should have quit while they were ahead.

Funniest moment - Billy imagining himself as a Cuban revolutionary executing his family in the cinema foyer!
