Avoid at all costs.....seriously..I'm not messing around here.
chris-storey26 February 2007
This film is a travesty. I don't even understand why they decided to term this a zombie movie. The 'things' in this film were as similar to zombies as I am.

Everything about this film was awful. The acting was just shocking. The effects were painfully bad. The story was a joke and the dialogue...What can I say about the dialogue..words fail me, they really do.

Im usually a huge fan of low budget horror but this was beyond the pale.

If you are a fan of zombie films stay away from this terrible film. Its a disgrace to the genre.

The Worst Zombie Movies Ever Made
fatemaster200329 May 2007
I'm one of the zombies movie's lover, and I've watch every zombie movies I could find out. And most of it, it's good. But this? This is a total crap. Everything in this movie is a waste. Bad script, bad acting (never saw anyone that's stupid enough to let some guys (zombies, if you could call it zombies) put a bomb in his laps, and just stare at it, as it is just a toy or a girl who looks very ready to scream her guts out when something approach her), bad make-up (the zombies look like a man who got a gray paint all over himself), bad music (using some kind of rock music, didn't really up the heat of this movie), and even bad plot (never seen a zombie who wants revenge only.) Overall, don't even watch it on DVD, except if you find the movie just lying around at a street corner. Not even worth your time, I should say.

This is bad - but funny too
murray-kendall19 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Inept crew, cast, and plot, with awful effects, and a low low low budget.

This folks, is a movie where the budget doesn't stretch to the hire of a police uniform. Yep - they make the poor mug wear a black bomber jacket and a black hat. Talking of the budget, surely it could have stretched to at least a visit to the butcher's shop for some offal rather than one sparingly used bottle of ketchup to cover all the gore requirements.

I do have a few favourite moments in this film though...

Who can forget the ridiculous girly fight at the beginning of the film? This was performed so slowly, that I initially thought it was their own low budget version of Matrix type slow-mo. But apparently not. What was that all about?

I also loved it when, in the "police station" (cue outside shot of a police station, before cutting to someone's spare room), the FBI agent asks if there was a phone she could use. - in a police station!!??

But the award goes to the death by lawnmower scene - perhaps the least gruesome, most protracted and badly acted "horror movie kill" I've seen in a long time - you can plainly see no damage is done.

and frankly I'm not going to comment on the ending, except to say that if those two actors were asked to "make out" in front of the camera, then I'm fairly certain they both have serious relationship problems in real life.

There's loads more inept scenes like those - but if you like movie turkeys then I guess you'll like this one - 2/10 for the unintentional comedy.

It's bad. Watch it by all means!
veo22 October 2006
This is a fascinating film. Don't get me wrong, it is not a good film. "Actors" are bad; Don "The Dragon" Wilson is Laurence Olivier compared to them. Direction, photography and editing are embarrassing. Fight scenes make circus clowns' jokes look like K1. The handgun, the German WW2 rifle and the grenade explosion all sound the same, let's say like a air gun. You can see "wounds" (be it gunshots or bites) are just a ridiculous splash of ketchup. I mean it is so bad, usually I wouldn't give it 3 minutes of my time since it's trash. Still... Not only I watched it, but I enjoyed it. The script is partially pretty good and, given better film crew and more money, the film could have been much better. The jokes are priceless! Dialogues are very good at times. All the women in the film are very beautiful – starting with Camille Djokoto (agent Conda). "War of the Dead" is fascinating because it is very bad, still makes you wanna see what happens next and provides great fun – both from the jokes and the terrible acting and direction. You even get to like the characters, if not from the way the script shaped them, at least from what you know they should have been and also from the clumsiness of the actors. (As for acting, I think Scott Cengija, the little Billy, was the best, while Rosemary Martins, Max's nurse, was really horrible and should not appear on screen again.) Let's just say if you're a film critic or a film snub, you'll hate this movie, won't watch it and think people who had fun at it don't know *beep* about movies. But if you just love plain cinema and zombie flicks, "War of the Dead" might give you 88 minutes of fun in a rainy afternoon.

Horrible
ApocalypseJack20 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was horrible. The story was ridiculous. In it some German soldiers surrender, but the platoon that finds them does not accept the surrender and torture and kill the Germans. these Germans then get infected by some insects and come back to get revenge on the American soldiers. they somehow get over to America some 50 years later undetected by anyone. from there they kill the American soldiers, but not zombie style. they shoot them or blow them up. when they shoot the guns no flash or bang goes off, the actors just twitch backwards to show some kickback. The last soldier is then running for life with his 8 year old grandson, a cop, and a supernatural cop. the zombie is then not even after the now senior citizen soldier, instead they want to thank him since he stood up for them. In the end the cop falls in love with the supernatural women, then u find out, duh duh duh, she's a zombie too, but she takes medication so she's not a full zombie. the acting was horrible, there are absolutely no special effects except for two explosions, and the storyline was horrible. the only thing i liked was that the only way to kill the zombies was to use a weapon that was around during world war 2. In conclusion i highly recommend everyone not to waste their time with this movie.

Not even a B movie
raypdaley18218 November 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Man this is AWFUL!

You're dropped right into the deep end of a very cheap looking movie & given a female vampire & a 1st death VERY early into the film (the opening credits hadn't even finished!) & a stupid hand to hand fight (why bother when you've got a handgun?).

The vampire's easy death looked far too fake & predictably was. If they were trying to say praying over water makes it holy (sorry, you need a high level priest to bless water to make it holy) then that's just bad research.

Cutting to the diner and the acting in there was truly awful indeed. The guy playing the clueless highway patrol officer is a dire actor, not once does he return fire when shot at.

The girl playing the special agent generally over-acts in most of the scenes she's in and the whole film seems very much like it was made by students as an end of year project. The whole "scared of mice" thing seemed like it wasn't going to go anywhere.

I do agree that the incidental music is just plain awful and clearly added on very late in production as an after thought. We are finally given an explanation that German Zombies from WW2 are hunting down and killing the Americans that killed them. Yes, a stupid idea for a plot but it's certainly never been done before.

The very notion that they'd recognise people after 60 yrs has passed is one of the minor plot flaws. The fact that their uniforms are in such great condition is another one.

The reason for the dead Germans wanting revenge is how they were mistreated before they were killed and it seems they can only be killed by the WW2 weapons. In the final encounter the local cop is bitten and infected and the special agent goes 1 on 1 with the last German Zombie (why she pulls her modern gun on him I don't know) but it seems the final Zombie has a death wish and is strangled by the last living GI.

We find out that the special agent herself is a Zombie and she cures the local cop and she advises him to join her in the fight against monsters.

Bad ending to a truly awful film

War Of The Dead from beyondthegore
beyondthegore27 March 2012
Sounds good, it really isn't.

Another zombie film which just has you asking two questions, the first, why did they bother making it? The second, why did I bother to watch it through to the end? The answers, well only those involved in the project and the almighty himself knows the answer to the first, the second, well I would have felt guilty reviewing a film which I hadn't seen in its entirety, and having just watched 'war of the dead' for the full 90 minutes I now appreciate how terrible an eternity in purgatory could be.

...

Overall, the story was a good enough idea, but the film was pretty poor. I'm a fan of low budget films but it always amazes me that people aren't able to realise the scope of their projects. Bottom line is, if you haven't got the budget for decent makeup or gore; don't bother making a zombie film. This is truly the case with 'War of the Dead' it had reasonable potential with its story, but was seriously below par on delivery and clearly on resources.

Student Film Quality zombie flick with the world's worst sound track.
dilbertsuperman3 March 2007
This is really unwatchable. The acting is generally stiff and the budget is obviously very very very low, like $15 for the special effects budget low. There's really no point in watching this it's utter garbage on a lot of levels. One of the scenes features Germans planting a grenade but the grenade shown is an American frag grenade- it was ridiculous. There are some funny moments but this is like watching someone's home movie movie as far as cinematic quality of editing and stunts. Avoid this waste of time at all costs unless you want to see what someone did with 38 dollars and a video camera. Making something this crappy and masquerading it as a film should be illegal. PLOT: Zombie Nazis are looking for their victims - what connects them to each other? Poor acting and worse stunts ensue.

Should not have been released.
finarose-26 August 2009
I don't know how this actually got released. I do realize that there probably were intentional jokes in this but it is hard to tell. I saw this movie at two video stores here in the Cowichan Valley, BC! So congratulations for that. To the maker of this film: I do admire your ability to "produce a film" fast plus make many copies of it on a professional looking DVD and make a good cover for the DVD. It's great to see someone making horror movies from Canada also. But thankfully you posed this film as if it were American (Washington, U.S.A. not Ontario, Canada.) That was the saving grace of the DVD because I'm Canadian. It was also a relief to see that the Canadian government didn't give money to help this get made. Use your strengths to release DVD's to video stores, but please have all different cast and crew make the film itself.

Nazi Zombie soldiers? C'mon, that in itself is AWESOME!
jamesmcleroy18 October 2006
First off, I am a guy who needs to own every zombie movie out there, so I'm not the most unbiased person out there. I saw War of the Dead at the video store and was expecting a rip-off of any "of-the-Dead" movie out there. What I discovered was one of the most fun, campiest movies I have ever seen! The story concerns a group of Nazi zombie soldiers who are hunting down the old war vets that killed them in the war. Right off the bat, you know it's not Citizen Kane. The zombies attack with a vengeance - they stick a grenade in some old guy's mouth, they bomb an old guy at a nursing home, and they use their sense of smell to hunt down the others. There are some boring flashback scenes to explain the FBI agent's past, but overall it's a great zombie flick. As any self-respecting zombie movie should, this has no budget. Even the zombie make-up is pretty nasty. Anyway, the cast is great (as far as zombie movies go), and the old people are freakin' hilarious.

Great if you watch it as a comedy
armands_skutelis25 February 2007
I can only repeat other comments that it is bad as a horror movie- terrible acting, stupid (better say 0) special effects, interesting but rather dumb plot, but it kicks ass!!! The great thing about this movie is that as it sometimes can be with small budget (100 bucks budget) movies they are really good as parody of the gender. I was laughing my head off watching this movie and thinking how really stupid the film makers were to make this and tell me that it is a horror movie. They could just tell that it is parody/comedy and that all- it is great to watch actors (craptors) and producents trying to make the movie serious when it's not. Even the music- some guy in the background probably playing electric guitar and even before zombie attacks the music stops giving all of it away. If this would be big budget movie than it would be soooo bad. But for this kind of budget it really can't be good being as it is advertised- horror movie. But it is stupidly funny- I love small budget sci-fi, horror movies with rating 2-3 on IMDb!
