Lupin the Third has endured to become one of the most recognizable franchises to come out of Japan. With new interpretations of the manga by the late Kazuhiko Kato (aka Monkey Punch) continuing to emerge, the cheeky thief and his band of cunning acquaintances, hasn’t waned in popularity. However, one of the most experimental Lupin series to be produced in recent years focuses on one of his ever-present yet most enigmatic allies – Fujiko Mine. The femme fatale takes center stage in Sayo Yamamoto’s 2012 series, “Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine”.

Fujiko Mine is a beautiful and ruthless thief with a heart of stone, or at least, that’s what she’d like most people to think. Using her womanhood to full effect, she thrives in the world of underground thievery, always setting her sights on the most precious and elusive of treasures.

Third Window Films is pleased to announce the World Premiere release of the new master of Macoto Tezuka’s 1985 debut film “The Legend of the Stardust Brothers”
In 1985, Macoto Tezka (son of the great manga artist Osamu Tezuka) met musician and TV personality Haruo Chicada who had made a soundtrack to a movie which didn’t actually exist: The Legend of the Stardust Brothers.
At the time Macoto was just 22 years old, a film-student with many short experimental films under his belt, but yet to make a feature-debut and of course had the pressure of the Tezuka name. With Chicada as producer, Tezka then adapted this “fake sountrack” into the real musical story of “The Stardust Brothers”.
With inspiration from “Phantom of the Paradise” and “Rocky Horror Picture Show”, Tezuka assembled a cast of some of Japan’s most famous musicians of the time, including such greats as Kiyohiko Ozaki,...

The Castle of Cagliostro was a followup to The Mystery of Mamo and gave Miyazaki the opportunity to make his feature debut. The film got some kind of limited U.S. theatrical release in 1991, ahead of its release on home video, which is how I first saw it....
