A couple of the Gold kids have aspirations. Hillary wants to be a professional singer but unfortunately doesn't have a singing voice to accommodate her. Larry runs for President of his chess club, unopposed with Kenny as his campaign manager.
Leave it to Dave who never holds back. Him & Vicky can take Hillary singing in the house for only so long. Dave persuades Kenny to run against Larry because he doesn't want Larry to get more chastised for his even higher geek status if he wins.
Meanwhile Vicky finds an empty condom wrapper in Mike's pants pocket while doing laundry so she and Dave go to Mike to find out exactly what's going on. Is Mike having sex?
He may not always have the best presentation when going about doing things (ala Shane from The Walking Dead) but at the end of the day Dave does what he thinks best for his kids and ultimately tries to look out for them, whether he's right or wrong.
My favorite line from the episode: Dave (speaking from the fourth wall in the episodes opening sequence): "I still have hopes & dreams for my own kids. Mainly that they'll sneak across the border into Mexico and leave me the hell alone."
