THIS MAN DAWSON –Doubt Of Evidence - 1959

This is episode 26 of the 1959-60 Police series, THIS MAN DAWSON. The series ran for a total of 39 episodes. Keith Andes headlines the series about an Ex-Military Officer hired to run a big city Police Department. The city is never named. Each episode starts and finishes with William Conrad doing the narration of the night's story.

This one starts with the end of a murder trial. William Joyce, a rich playboy type has just been found not guilty in the death of a woman. The dead man's husband, Douglas Dick, swears revenge on Joyce. "Money and connections will not save you from me!" He screams at Joyce.

Police Chief, Keith Andes has Dick picked up and brought in for a talk. He tells Dick that Joyce has been found not guilty, and to back off. Andes, tells Dick that he believes Joyce is innocent and that the murder had been done by another man. He promises Dick he will solve the case. Dick does not believe a word Andes says. He fully intends to kill Joyce.

Andes, has his detectives go over all the case files again and interview everyone over. They discover that an alibi witness for one of the original suspects, Lance Fuller, had lied. Chief Andes decides that Fuller deserves a much closer look into.

At the same time, the more than upset, Dick, has made an attempt at running down Joyce. He calls Joyce after the botched try and says he will never stop. Joyce swears he never killed Dick's wife. Dick agrees to a face to face meeting that night so that Joyce can prove it. Needless to say that Dick intends to use the meeting to get his final vengeance.

Andes and his Detectives have rumbled suspect Fuller and taken him into custody. A little bit of forceful interviewing soon has Fuller admitting to killing Dick's wife. Joyces' girl, Laurie Carroll now calls in and tells the Police about the meeting between Joyce and Dick. Dragging Fuller behind them, the Police grab some cars and also head for the meet.

They catch Dick in time to prevent him murdering Joyce. The real murderer, Fuller, tells Dick that he and Dick's wife, had been stepping out behind Dick's back. When she tried to end the affair, Fuller had killed her. He had then framed Joyce for the killing.

The episode was directed by William Conrad who also co-produced. Conrad is well known to film noir fans from his acting roles in, THE KILLERS, BODY AND SOUL, SORRY WRONG NUMBER, TENSION, ONE WAY STREET, DIAL 1119, THE RACKET, CRY OF THE HUNTED and CRY DANGER. (b/w)
