One of the best classics...
stiva25 December 2006
I have seen lot of Tamil movies. Most directors are always making either love films or sentimental one which is very annoying and irritating. Only a few movies are good and that too some of those are copied from English movies like Ghajini (Memento), Thenali (What Abot Bob) and so on. This year(2006) a lot of movies were released in south India. I guess around 20-30 movies (approx). Out of these only 2 movies were appreciable. One is Imsai Arasan 23 Pulikesi and another is Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu. I especially appreciate this one. This movie is a turning point to all future movies to be made.

Directors are always making idiotic excuses by telling that people don't expect movies of different genre and creativity. As far as I am concerned this is best movie ever made in a very long time. The Director of this movie has proved all other directors are stupid. The comedy of this movie has it's timing and moments. Everyone in this movie has done a wonderful job. This is the first ever the best Slapstick Comedy movie I ever came across Tamil movies. Watch this movie. Enjoy the comedy. You'll appreciate this one for sure.

Shankar's one of the best productions and Vadivelu's best Comedy. He has earned it a lot. Music are all in olden style. It's like "Old is Gold". The language is the best part in this movie. They not only used pure Tamil, but at perfect time and proper places they have used Chennai Tamil which increases the humor more.

I hope that director's will open their eyes from this movie and will strive towards making different varieties of movies.

A 8.2/10 movie

An Underdog Rises

Always given a role that was slapstick, it is refreshing to see Vadivelu in an acting role that requires him to do more than just get soundly trashed. His first project as a hero is certainly worth watching. He does not have typical characteristics of a "hero" but that does not deteriorate the movie. Rather, he does justice to his roles. The supporting casts are good as well. Each have a purpose that enhance the story.

The credit goes to Chimbu Deven for writing an excellent screenplay and for his directing skills. The dialogues are the highlight of the film and the comedy is a mix of both written and body language. The editing was great, because the movie did not lag as most historical dramas tend to. The songs were okay, almost feeling like a parody to the olden days.

Overall, this movie is done well and is worth watching.

Comedy with a message
velur_senthil31 December 2006
If you expect this movie to be a full and full comedy, then you will be disappointed. This is a comedy movie with a message about politics and governance set in a historical backdrop.

Some of the minuses for this movie is that it lacks a good climax. The plot is very predictable. However comedy fills this void very well.

Vadivelu's acting and dialogue delivery is excellent. Nasar as usual has acted very well. Vadivelu has distinugished his two roles really well with versatile acting

I give it 8 stars because the director has attempted a bold fresh concept.

An Indian Woody Allen?
swaroop-mami24 August 2007
I might be speaking too soon, but this movie reminded me of early Woody Allens - insane, spoofy, filled with one-liners and intelligent satire... Woody Allen's "Bananas", and "Take the money and Run" are movies you'll enjoy if you liked this. While you go through the experience of watching this, you'll be struck by the number of clichés - and how well they're used to both make fun of the genre and stay within it.

Vadivel packs a punch with his excellent performance and so does Nasser. The movie isn't as tight as it could have been, a snip here and there might just have done the trick. Even production values-wise, there is some work to be done. Given all that, I think this is an excellent start for someone who wants to make his audience laugh...

Watch it if you haven't!
