Fox Broadcasting Co. is taking The O.C. back to its old turf on Wednesday following a dismal Season 4 premiere last week.
Amid a schedule overhaul for Wednesday and Thursday nights, Fox also has axed its rookie comedy Happy Hour and the reality show The Rich List, which was DOA in its premiere in the 9 p.m. Wednesday slot last week.
In other Fox news, the network is developing a U.S. version of the Canadian comedy series The Tournament, with Thomas Schlamme on board as executive producer.
This week, Fox intends to run a double dose of O.C. at 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 p.m. Thursday. But it is understood that Fox is hoping O.C. will take root in the Wednesday slot so it can open up 9-10 p.m. Thursday for a block of animation repeats that would turn the night into all-comedy for Fox.
O.C. previously ran on Wednesday during its first full season in 2003-04, but this time around it will face tougher competition from ABC's Lost and CBS' Criminal Minds, though Fox is banking on O.C. being good counterprogramming to the older-skewing dramas.

NEW YORK -- ABC won Wednesday in the adults 18-49 demographic but lost in viewership to CBS, whose Criminal Minds once again overtook Lost at 9:30 p.m. and the entire hour.
ABC placed ahead of CBS in adults 18-49 for the night, winning both the 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. hours comfortably. But the momentum shifted to CBS at 10 p.m., which won in the demo and viewership with CSI: NY. And even though ABC trounced all comers at 8 p.m. with the Dancing With The Stars results show, CBS won the night in viewership.
Dancing With The Stars (19.2 million, 4.9 rating/13 share in adults 18-49) started off the night for ABC down slightly from last week's 20.2 million and 5.1/14, according to preliminary estimates released Thursday by Nielsen Media Research. Nothing else came even close. CBS' Jericho (10 million, 3.1/8) was down slightly compared to last week's 10.6 million, 3.2/9. After a month on the bench thanks to the baseball postseason, Fox's Bones (7.4 million, 3.3/8) was down only 4% in the demo.
NBC's sitcoms 30 Rock (4.8 million, 1.8/5) and 20 Good Years (4.2 million, 1.5/4) continued their declines and were beaten by The CW's America's Next Top Model (4.4 million, 2.1/6) in the demo.
Lost (16.1 million, 6.6/12) remained the night's demo winner but a surging Criminal Minds (16.7 million, 4.9/12) sailed past it at 9:30 p.m. and for the entire hour. The Biggest Loser (7.8 million, 3.3/8) helped NBC recover a bit at 9 p.m. while the premiere of the Fox game show The Rich List (4.1 million, 1.5/4) was tepid.
