Miss Smith, a teacher loved by pupils and staff alike, has received her clock, and plans to lock the school for the last time, however she sees one last visitor, ex pupil, James.
An intriguing, bleak first episode, there's definitely a bit of spite, a bit of malevolence to this story. Essentially just a two hander, huge credit to Clive Swift and Patience Collier, for making this such an interesting watch.
I liked the way that the ending was left a little ambiguous, allowing the viewer to dwell on it, and put together the pieces the way that they saw it, very smart.
I wonder if there wasn't something of personal experience here from writer William Trevor, which of us left school without harbouring some animosity towards one of our former teachers, someone that disciplined us, or made us feel a little stupid, this takes that to a new level.
Really good, 8/10.
