Ron Gilbert, an Emmy-nominated producer and partner with David Susskind in the indie production company Talent Associates Ltd that was behind TV series like Get Smart and movies including Straw Dogs and Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, died of heart failure December 4 at his Los Angeles home. “For all of our success in all of the films, it comes down to characters,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told IndieWire. “We always say that ‘Endgame’ worked, not because it had more special effects than the other movies, not because it had more battles than the other movies, but because it had more characters that you care about than the other movies. The reason you care about those characters is because of the actors who portray them, and the reason those actors portray them is because at some point, Sarah Finn brought them to our attention.”
Finn was an early McU adopter, coming on board with her then-partner Randi Hiller to cast “Iron Man” way back in 2008, long before anyone could possibly see how far a single superhero film would carry a fledgling franchise. In the decade-plus since, Finn hasn’t strayed: she’s cast every single McU film.

Here We Go Again: Evans’ Nondescript Venture a Familiar Recipe of Whirlwind Romance
Love is not a many splendored thing in actor Chris Evans’ directorial debut, Before We Go, a mediocre two-hander requiring a certain finesse not in evidence either before or in front of the camera, at least enough to believably carry us off into the sunset of illogical romantic inclinations. That’s not to say the film is terrible or even evidence that Evans should quit his day job, but mostly how it unfortunately elicits an overall and achingly constant ‘meh.’ Saddled with one of those vaguely poetic titles reminiscent of a slew of emotionally malleable indie films like Before I Disappear or Away We Go, even though it probably wants to be comparable to Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight trilogy, perhaps we shouldn’t be disappointed since the comfortably predictable narrative can’t be accused...

Bryce Dallas Howard in ‘Jurassic World’? Howard possibly the next female star in ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise Bryce Dallas Howard, Rush director Ron Howard’s daughter perhaps best known for playing the Vengeful Vampire Victoria in David Slade’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, is "in talks" to star in Jurassic World aka Jurassic Park 4, to be directed by Safety Not Guaranteed‘s Colin Trevorrow. At this stage, it’s unclear what exactly Howard would be doing in Jurassic World — well, except that her (potential) character will somehow become entangled with dinosaurs and that there’ll be lots of green screens on the set. (See also: “‘Jurassic World’ director Colin Trevorrow. Why Him?“) (Photo: Bryce Dallas Howard.) According to various online reports, Universal had sets its sights on Bryce Dallas Howard a while back, but production was halted after Trevorrow took a pass on Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver’s Jurassic World draft.

• Arnold Schwarzenegger continues his streak of gritty action films, signing on to star in the thriller Ten, Open Road Films announced today. David Ayer (Street Kings, End of Watch) will direct the script by Skip Woods (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, A Good Day to Die Hard), which follows a team of crooked DEA agents who start getting mysteriously executed after a dirty drug raid. Schwarzenegger’s role in the film is unclear, but we’re guessing it’s light on introspective soliloquies.

So, you might remember that a couple of years ago it was revealed that "Precious" director Lee Daniels was attached to direct a remake of Federico Fellini's classic "Nights Of Cabiria." Well, thankfully, that never came to pass, but guess what, this car crash of a bad idea is still happening.
Let's just run this down in the easiest way possible: instead of Giulietta Masina? We're going to get Juliette Lewis. Instead of Fellini? How about Brad Michael Gilbert, the producer behind "The Loss Of A Teardrop Diamond" and uh, "After.Life" that movie with Liam Neeson and Christina Ricci. Making his feature debut, no less. And instead of Nino Rota's masterful score? God knows, who they'll get to score this thing.
What else can we say about this? Oh, it's now going to be called "The Days Of Mary" which might be the most bland title to ever...

Federico Fellini’s Nights of Cabiria is getting a contemporary re-imagining, one that will star Juliette Lewis and be titled The Days of Mary. The original movie, written by Federico Fellini, Ennio Flaiano and Tullio Pinelli, followed a prostitute looking for love in Rome but finding only heartache. It won the 1958 Oscar for best foreign-language film. The movie was remade in 1969 as a Bob Fosse musical starring Shirley MacLaine titled Sweet Charity. The new movie, being directed by Brad Michael Gilbert (The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond), moves the action to Reno, Nev. Gilbert also wrote the

Chris Evans shirtless The tattooed Chris Evans shirtless photo shoot for Details magazine will likely serve as a sexy promo for the upcoming The Avengers, which opens May 4. In Joss Whedon's movie, Evans (either with his shirt on or with his tattoos covered up, one assumes) will reprise his role as Captain America, which he initially played in last year's blockbuster Captain America: The First Avenger, directed by Joe Johnston. Just Jared offers about 20 pictures from the Chris Evans Details shoot, which took place on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Vasquez Rocks Park in Santa Clarita, about 25 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. (The tattoo on his arm looks like something out of a Georgia O'Keeffe painting.) Over the last several years, Bryce Dallas Howard has been the go-to fill-in girl. She took over for Kirsten Dunst in 'The Village,' Nicole Kidman in Lars Von Trier's 'Manderlay,' the struggling Lindsay Lohan in 'The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond,' Claire Danes in 'Terminator: Salvation' and most recently Rachelle Lefevre in 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.' With only 12 (credited) feature films, that's a pretty big percentage of replacement fare.
But now she's gearing up to follow in her father Ron Howard's footsteps and take the driver's seat -- not by swearing off replacement roles and cinematic scraps, but by taking over creative control and making her own film, one she calls "a 'Breakfast Club' for my generation."

Subject:Bryce Dallas Howard, 29-year old American actress
Date of Assessment: October 22, 2010
Positive Buzzwords: Beauty, talent, persistence
Negative Buzzwords: Nepotism, unsettling, Shyamalan
The Case: This week's subject reveals herself as a puzzling illustration of an actress that, theoretically speaking, should have experienced a greater degree of career success than has actually occurred to date. Of course, one expects good (if not necessarily great) things for the daughter of Ron Howard (whose own quality ebbs and flows), but Bryce Dallas Howard hasn't merely shown a willingness to ride upon her father's proverbial ginger-tinted coattails.
In terms of nepotism and for the sake of argument, let's compare (at least in a cursory respect) Bryce to Gwyneth Paltrow. Both actresses have enjoyed success in their own rights yet were undeniably able to place their stiletto heels in the door jam (without losing those tootsies) because of their famous Hollywood director fathers, but that's where the similarity ends.

Bryce Dallas Howard stars as a wilful 20.s southern belle in The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond, based on Tennessee Williams. 1957 play. Fisher Willow feels smothered by the conventions of her time and place, as there is no room for her considerable imagination and curiosity. She and a young man (Chris Evans) become the focal figures in a local melodrama which has the potential to .ruin. her. Monsters and Critics met with Howard to talk about making William.s intense period piece. Fisher Willow is bigger than life and you play her with such glee. She is a very fiery character, passionate, angry, excitable and really, for me, this very modern girl, an eccentric woman who just...

Chris Evans may be a Captain America and the Human Torch to some but to others the actor does his best work in smaller, artistic gems like The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond, Jodie Markell.s film adaptation of a Tennessee Williams melodrama. He stars as Jimmy, Blake Dallas Howard.s socially inferior lover in class-conscious Memphis of the 1920.s. While the film is more challenging than most due to its formal language, it is also deeply moving in ways only Williams can express. The man knows suffering. Monsters and Critics spoke with Evans. How did you like delivering the line and speaking the way Williams has his characters speak . so formal, precise, and incredibly poetic? It.s very...

Chicago – Ever since Tommy Wiseau declared that his masterpiece of ineptitude, “The Room,” was “filmed with the passion of Tennessee Williams,” I’ve become considerably more weary of any film that makes such an inflated claim. Of course, “The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond” has a better defense, since it’s actually the adaptation of a long-forgotten work from the legendary playwright.
Watching the film is a curious experience, suggesting how a mediocre revival of a classic play would look on Broadway, with big-name stars straining to make archaic dialogue sound fresh and naturalistic. Actor-turned-director Jodie Markell respects her source material to such a degree that she seems blind to its inherent shortcomings. The play is hardly worth comparing to an essential masterwork like “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” though it’s easy to imagine Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman in the lead roles, which are colorless amalgams of...

It seems that "Victoria" isn't the only vicious character The Twilight Saga: Eclipse actress Bryce Dallas Howard will be portraying.
According to ComingSoon.net, she has just signed on for a role in The Help, a film based upon a novel of the same name by Kathryn Stockett.
Howard's role in the project is "Hilly Holbrook," an unpleasant "beehive hairdo-wearing busybody" who, one book reviewer stated, is "heading up a movement encouraging whites to build separate bathrooms in their homes for their colored help."
The book chronicles the effects of an interview that takes place ... co-star Emma Stone and Viola Davis and that filming will begin this July.

Despite the title of his latest movie, The Losers (2010), Chris Evans is no loser. Far from it, in fact. The actor, who first gained some heat with Not Another Teen Movie (2001), got red hot with his role as Johnny Storm/Human Torch in Fantastic Four (2005) and its sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). And it's just been made official that he'll star as Steve Rogers/Captain America in Marvel's next big comic-book-based film, The First Avenger: Captain America (2011). However, the story of the moment is The Losers, based on a lesser known comic of the same title. He co-stars in the April 23 release as Jensen, one of several CIA operatives double-crossed and left for dead in Bolivia. Most definitely not dead, the group (which also includes Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Idris Elba, Columbus Short and Oscar Jaenada) gets an assist from a lethal beauty (Zoe Saldana) and sets about...

Bryce Dallas Howard, the star of Manderlay and The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond, replaced Rachelle Lefevre in the role of Victoria last year. According to reports, Lefevre left the franchise because of "scheduling conflicts." Victoria, a role originally offered to Howard in the first Twilight movie, is the vindictive vampire out to get Kristen Stewart’s Bella. That’s because Victoria blames Robert Pattinson’s Edward for the death of her boyfriend. A neck for a neck, as the old saying goes. "We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise," remarked Summit Entertainment’s Erik Feig at the time Howard joined the Twilight Saga troupe. "Rachelle brought Victoria to great screen life and Bryce will bring [...]...

So how did "A Serious Man" pull off that underdog Oscar nomination for best picture? Perhaps because it was among the first wave of DVD screeners shipped to academy members, long before the deluge of discs that arrived during the holiday season. Such an early-out-of-the-gate strategy certainly helped "Slumdog Millionaire" in last year's derby as it romped to victory with eight wins, including best picture. And it might have helped land lead acting nods last year for Richard Jenkins ("The Visitor") and Melissa Leo ("Frozen River"), whose DVDs were among the first dozen discs to get into Oscar voters' hands. Likewise for this year's lead actress contender Carey Mulligan ("An Education") and supporting actor nominee Woody Harrelson ("The Messenger"). Other films that did well in past derbies, like "Juno" (2007) and "Hustle and Flow" (2005), were also delivered to the mailboxes of Oscar voters early in the award cycle. Early bird "Little Miss Sunshine...

As husband Seth Gabel is Jewish and Bryce herself a “Connecticut W.A.S.P,” the actress admits the situation was “tricky” to say the least! “We don’t want to lie to him,” she insists.

Jodie Markell's The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond unearths a long-buried Tennessee Williams screenplay and, while most of the major players appear to do their best, the conventional, dull script is actually the weakest element of the production, proving that perhaps it was buried for a reason. Actress Bryce Dallas Howard joins the distinguished group of women who have portrayed Tennessee Williams' heroines on screen with her latest, "The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond." Howard recently told MakingOf that her role in the independent film was inspired by Vivien Leigh's performance as Blanche DuBois and admits to being "quite nervous to do this character." She elaborates, "it's not anything that I ever thought I would get to do - playing a Tennessee Williams heroine - it's an incredible notion."
The film, based on a previously unproduced screenplay by Williams ("The Glass Menagerie," "A Streetcar Named Desire," "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"), revolves around Howard's 1920s Southern socialite Fisher Willow as she falls in love with the poor Jimmy Dobyne (Chris Evans). The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond (2009) Direction: Jodie Markell Screenplay: Tennessee Williams Cast: Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Evans, Ellen Burstyn, Ann-Margret, Will Patton, Mamie Gummer, Jessica Collins Bryce Dallas Howard in The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond A new production of a little-known, decades-old screenplay from a celebrated — indeed, legendary — writer invites cautious response. After all, if a work is dynamic and exceptional, how could it remain undeveloped for many years? The answer is pleasingly complicated when it comes to Tennessee Williams‘ The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond. Written directly for the screen in 1957, the work withered until selected by Jodie Markell for her directorial debut feature. The unmistakable Williams heroine is Fisher Willow (Bryce Dallas Howard), a pariah [...]...

After honing her skills in front of the camera, actress Jodie Markell ("Big Love") chose to make her directorial debut with a rather daunting project that began, long before she was born, as a rare and long-forgotten film script by A Streetcar Named Desire playwright Tennessee Williams. Years after Williams' death, The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond - conceived to be directed by Elia Kazan decades ago - marks the return of Southern Gothic romance to the big screen, full of Tennessee Williams's signature melodramatic flavor. (Read Jenni Miller's review here.)

The film, which also stars Chris Evans, Ellen Burstyn and Ann-Margret, is the feature directing debut of actress Jodie Markell - and has a script that's an unproduced screenplay by the late Tennessee Williams. In Teardrop Diamond, Howard plays debutante Fisher Willow, who elevates working-class Jimmy (Evans) to beau status, to attend the season's balls in Memphis during the 1920s. It's a character easily identifiable as Williams', yet with a difference. Howard, who broke through in M. Night Shymalan's The Village in...
