In 1975, Billy Welu died suddenly of a heart attack and was replaced by Nelson Burton Jr. who remained Schenkel's broadcasting partner until the end.
The first ball thrown on the ABC televised series in 1962 was by Dick Weber. Thirty-five years later, in 1997, the last ball thrown on the series was by Pete Weber, the son of Dick Weber. Both father and son are members of the Professional Bowler's Hall of Fame.
