- Mr. Peevey: [gazing at the Captain's portrait] Hmm, I wonder what he'd have to say about all this if he was here.
- Candice Muir: Keelhaul the blasted pirates!
- Jonathan Muir: And nail 'em to the mizzenmast!
- Frank Donaldson: Well, there's an old saying, lady. I love old sayings. I love a good old... Here's one: "You can't fight city hall."
- Carolyn Muir: Who says I can't?
- Frank Donaldson: Oh, well, uh, you can try but, uh, that's like tryin' to make the sun stop shining.
- [a storm immediately appears, raining only on Frank Donaldson]
- Capt. Daniel Gregg: What else do you think we can't do?
- Frank Donaldson: You know, I've heard of it, uh, rainin' on one side of the street before but never on just one person.
- Carolyn Muir: [nervously] it's one of those temperamental flash floods, I guess.
- Frank Donaldson: Yeah, with my name on it.
- Frank Donaldson: And, uh, you probably wanna take a look at these, uh, survey reports too, right?
- Judge Hickox: Yes.
- Frank Donaldson: Huh?
- Judge Hickox: Yes.
- Frank Donaldson: Huh?
- Judge Hickox: Yes.
- Frank Donaldson: Huh?
- Judge Hickox: YES!
- Carolyn Muir: [in jail] How do you like my new room?
- Candice Muir: Oh, it's neat!
- Martha Grant: Heh, can't say I like the way the venetian blinds slant.
- [as a favor, acting Constable Peevey feigns sleep so he doesn't have to see and thereby arrest Mrs. Muir]
- Carolyn Muir: Well, I want you to do something for me.
- Mr. Peevey: Oh, sure, Mrs. Muir. You just name it.
- Carolyn Muir: Put me in jail.
- Mr. Peevey: Why... I not only haven't seen you, I haven't heard you either.
- [returns to feigning sleep]
- Carolyn Muir: I mean it. I want you to put me in jail.
- Mr. Peevey: But, Mrs. Muir, I can't do that to you.
- Carolyn Muir: If you don't, I will be the first person in history to break INTO jail.
- Capt. Daniel Gregg: Madam, in my day there was a beautiful home here called the Mansion House. The government decided to raze it for a proposed new harbor by the same right of eminent domain. It went to court. Those who loved it argued in vain. The court ruled against them as it will against you, and the final irony was that the new harbor was never built.
- [under the Captain's influence, the bulldozer's engine burns]
- Frank Donaldson: [blaming Carolyn] Sabotage! Issue a restraining order.
- Mr. Peevey: [as acting constable] Oh, oh, oh, sure. Uh, uh, uh, ta... Mrs, Muir, uh, uh... restrain yourself.
- Mr. Peevey: [to Frank] How's that?
