The last time the Writers Guild of America went on strike against the Hollywood studios was in November 2007, which feels like a million generations ago. George W. Bush was still president; the broadcast networks still had an enormous footprint on the pop-culture landscape; and House of Cards, the first high-profile series made directly for streaming, was still six years away.
In both cases, the writers are picketing over transformations to the industry that have made it exponentially more difficult for writers to make a living. In 2007, it was about the...

Last night, an odd bit of TV news popped up: according to TVLine, thirtysomething creators Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick have been hired to run the fifth season of Nashville. Now, first Nashville has to be officially renewed for a fifth season, which may be harder than it seems now that the show's biggest fan, Paul Lee, is no longer running ABC. But assuming it comes back with HerskoZwick at the helm, it'd be among the weirder showrunner transitions in TV history. Now, series change showrunners all the time. Dee Johnson, whom the thirtysomething guys would be succeeding, was already a replacement for Jim Parriott, who was himself brought in because Nashville creator Callie Khouri hadn't run her own show before. Sometimes, new showrunners come from within, like The Walking Dead's transition from Frank Darabont to Glen Mazzara to Scott Gimple, or L.A. Law staff writer David E. Kelley...

NBC's hit comedy About a Boy returns Tuesday at 9:30/8:30c, and no one is more excited for the show's second season than star David Walton. After all, this is his first time.
"This is my first Season 2 experience, and I really like it," he tells TVGuide.com. "It's just nice to be employed."
Despite his talent, good looks and charm, Walton is quite familiar with the alternative of not having a gig. Over the past decade, he has starred on six failed network TV shows (Cracking Up, Heist, Quarterlife, 100 Questions, Perfect Couples and Bent) before finding success on...

"Grimm" Season 1 hits Blu-ray/DVD August 7th, and to make sure we leave no stone unturned regarding this release, here are two more bonus clips from the set. And that's not all - we also have a new promo in which the cast members offer a few hints of what's coming in Season 2!
EW provided the new promo and a bit more info on Season 2: It picks up right where the first season finale left off — with Det. Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) having a lot of issues to contend with, not the least of which is coming face-to-face with his mother, who, as Monroe puts it, is supposed to be “not-so-alive.” The other teases include how Nick’s main lady, Juliette, is doing after being scratched by a “monster cat,” how Nick’s partner, Hank (Russell Hornsby), is dealing with paranoia after seeing his first creature last season, and...

The dust has barely settled on the 2011-2012 television season, but the studios are already gearing up the season box sets in anticipation of the fall premieres. Among them is Grimm, which was a major ratings surprise for NBC when the mid-season series debuted. It takes an entirely different look at fairy tales, compared with ABC’s ratings success with Once Upon a Time proving once more that it all comes down to execution.

“Cat and Mouse” Air Date: 4/20/12
Along with Once Upon A Time, Grimm was heralded as another harbinger for the fairy tale boom to come. But, after breezing through the first seventeen episodes in short order to catch up, I found that that’s a misnomer. Yes, this series, set in Portland, Oregon (great to have a show set there besides Portlandia), revolves around Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli), a descendant of the Grimm family (the brothers that wrote them books), who has the ability to see if someone is really a supernatural creature, or a Wesen (pronounced vessen), and is tasked with hunting them down. He is referred to as a “grimm” by these very creatures. But he doesn’t stumble upon any fairy tale characters or premises like in Ouat, he merely finds that there’s a lot of bad guys muddying up his case load that are really furry beasts.

Strong ratings for the first 4 episodes of Grimm have convinced NBC to give the show a full season order. NBC will also be testing out Grimm in a Thursday time slot on December 8th. Another new episode will follow December 9th at it’s normal time.

The intriguing new NBC series Grimm has been gaining a lot of fans and positive press lately. On tonight's episode, actress Nana Visitor (Friday the 13th 2009) will play a Grimm monster. If you haven't checked out the show, it comes highly recommended. It's not full on horror by any means, but it is creative, dark and offers some horror elements. Check out the details about tonight's episode below, as well as the full Pilot of the series under that.
Nana Visitor (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Battlestar Gallactica) will be on tonight’s episode (9pm on NBC). Nina will play Grimm monster, The Mellischwuler (Queen Bee of the Mellifer community).

We’re really liking this new show! The premise is fresh, the look is quietly dark and misty (they shoot in Oregon) and the chemistry is great. And tonight we get a special treat in the form of a very cool guest star. Here are a gallery of pics, two clips and the episode synopsis to get you ready:

Grimm finally premieres tonight at 9 pm on NBC and a bunch of new articles and interviews have showed up since yesterday.
Teresa Jusino has an excellent new interview with Sasha Roiz at Tor.com, mostly about Grimm, but some of this other recent projects get mentioned too, including Caprica.
Knowing that Roiz has expressed a preference for fantasy over sci-fi, I asked him whether this being an urban fantasy (created by Angel exec producers, David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf no less!) had something to do with his accepting the role.
“Personally, as an actor, it matters very little me what genre (if any) I’m engaged in.” he says. “It’s all make-believe and requires the same process and imagination. I respond to good writing and good people. I’ve been very fortunate over the years to get both. I think the term ‘genre’ has become very gray in recent years,...

NBC is gearing up to premiere its latest foray into genre programming on Friday, October 28th: "Grimm," a new police procedural inspired by the classic Grimms’ fairy tales that centers around Portland homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli; Turn The Beat Around, Camera Obscura), who discovers he is descended from an elite line of criminal profilers known as "Grimms" that have been charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological creatures of the world.
As Nick struggles to hide the dangers of his newfound calling from his fiancée, Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch; "Quarterlife"), and his partner, Hank (Russell Hornsby; "Fear Itself," Stuck), he becomes ever more entrenched in the ancient rivalries and alliances of the Grimm world.
With help from his confidant, Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell, "Prison Break"), a reformed Grimm creature himself, Nick must navigate through the forces of a larger-than-life mythology while facing off with Hexenbiests, Blutbads and...

Anybody take advantage of NBC's offer to its "Grimm" Twitter followers to watch the pilot early? We got our hands on the code to do so and will have a story with our first impressions up shortly, but in the meantime here are three new TV spots (granted, they're all a bit similar) that'll give you a good idea of what to expect.
Synopsis:
Portland homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli, Turn the Beat Around) discovers he is descended from an elite line of criminal profilers known as “Grimms,” charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological creatures of the world. As he tries to hide the dangers of his newfound calling from his fiancée, Juliette Silverton (Bitsie Tulloch, “Quarterlife”), and his partner, Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby, “Lincoln Heights”), he becomes ever more entrenched in the ancient rivalries and alliances of the Grimm world.

Of course you remember reading the Brothers Grimm Fairytales as a child and being scared out of your mind, you ended up believing that a troll was now living under your bed or that a witch wanted to eat you or that a dwarf was going to steal your baby brother, whilst all the time your parents told you it was all make believe. However it turns maybe that wasn’t the whole truth. Well that is if you believe the premise for NBC’s new show Grimm.
Maybe fairytales aren’t just there to terrify us or teach some kind of moral lesson (although what that may be I never actually understood, except you should really be able to recognise the difference between your Granny and a wolf in drag). Perhaps they are actually warnings (and not in the metaphorical sense) about real crimes. It seems we got it right as children,...

NBC recently sent out a press release regarding its fall primetime preview show, titled, not too mysteriously, The NBC Primetime Preview Show. It’s a 30-minute show that will be aired “via multiple broadcast, digital, NBCUniversal and cable entities”; in other words, you’ll have to check your local listings, or look for it online.
But here’s the really interesting part: in describing the preview show, NBC gave a brief summary of we’re-really-looking-forward-to-this-show Grimm that was slightly different from previous summaries, so we thought you’d like to see it:

Bear - I’m very proud of the work I did and contributions I made in helping to create a universe on those two series. I feel that BSG had such a profound influence on my life that even to try and talk about it is a fools errand. It changed me personally,...

If past years are any indication, Comic-Con will begin releasing its official 2011 panel schedule later today (Wednesday) with the schedule for Preview Night, Wednesday, July 20. If that happens then we can expect them to follow suit for the rest of the days, so that Thursday will see the release of the Thursday of Con schedule, etc., through Sunday.
Once the official schedules are posted these “TV and Movie Panels and Screenings Updates” will be scaled back to just the date, time, title, and location, since the rest of the information and So Much More (including comics panels, autograph signings, etc.) will be available on the Comic-Con schedule link we’ll provide. Consider this, then, the last of the extremely long posts, and hopefully we’ll be getting that official schedule soon.
Hmm, here’s an interesting matchup: Glee will be in Hall H on Sunday at 10:00; Supernatural will be...

And another one of our highly anticipated new genre TV shows is getting the royal treatment at this year's San Diego Comic-Con as we've learned that NBC's "Grimm" is set to premiere at the big show on Saturday, July 23rd, followed by a Q&A with its creators and full cast.
From the Press Release:
Universal Media Studios will premiere the innovative supernatural television series "Grimm" at this year's Comic-Con International, offering attendees an opportunity to exclusively screen the pilot episode and participate in a Q&A with the cast and creators of the upcoming fantasy series on Saturday, July 23rd.
"Grimm", debuting on NBC this fall, is a provocative police procedural with supernatural mythology, inspired by the classic Grimm Brothers' fairy tales. With an original "crime fighting meets storytelling" premise, the series promises a new world of police work where the cases have a storybook connection, but not always happily ever after.

Here are clips from NBC's 2011-2012 drama lineup. The shows include Prime Suspect, The Playboy Club, Smash, Grimm, Awake, and The Firm. Earlier we shared the comedy clips and the schedule. It's that time again, and NBC has revealed it's 2011-2012 schedule. A couple of things have been kicked to the curb, and a host of new shows are coming to fill things in. I have a preview of the new fall shows, and the full schedule for you. There are a few surprises on the cut and not cut side of things, and the new shows have a bit of something for everyone. As usual, some of the ones that look the best to me are reserved for mid-season. And, NBC has apparently given up on Saturday altogether.
It's a whole lot of info, so let's just jump in.

Who's afraid of the big bad wolf? Not NBC.
"Grimm" is a new fantasy drama series inspired by the classic Grimm's Fairy Tales. Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Guintoli, "Turn the Beat Around") is a homicide cop who finds out he is a descendant of an elite group of hunts, known as "Grimms." The Grimms fight to keep humanity safe from supernatural creatures.
As Nick digs deeper into his past, he finds out that all those things from under the bed/in the closet/lurking in the shadows are, in fact, real. Russell Hornsby ("Lincoln Heights"), Bitsie Tulloch ("Quarterlife"), Silas Weir Mitchell ("Prison Break"), Reggie Lee ("Persons Unknown") and Sasha Roiz ("Caprica") also star. Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner ("Hot in Cleveland") serve as executive producers, Jim Kouf ("National Treasure," "Angel") and David Greenwalt ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel") are the creators/executive producers and Marc Buckland ("My Name Is Earl") is the director.

Chicago – The slow trickle of news regarding NBC cancellations and renewals has finally burst the dam and we have the entire Fall schedule to present along with descriptions of the new programs and time/day changes for several of your favorites.
Chuck

NBC will aggressively try to right a ratings-challenged ship by programming 12 new programs over the year — 6 new dramas and 6 new comedies. Many of them won’t premiere until mid-season and “30 Rock” won’t return until then either, running uninteruppted from that point (not unlike “Parks and Recreation” did this year). In other major news, the final, 13-episode season of “Chuck” will air on Friday nights.
The returning shows for the network include “Parenthood,” “Harry’s Law,” “Chuck,” “Community,” “Parks and Recreation,” “The Office,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “The Voice,” “The Sing-Off,” “The Celebrity Apprentice,” “The Biggest Loser,” “30 Rock,” and “Dateline NBC.”

Canceled programs for the network include “The Event,...

Word came down over the weekend that "The Paul Reiser Show," had been cancelled after only two episodes, due to poor reviews and dreadful ratings. It wasn't a huge surprise: It wasn't a very good show; NBC had very little faith in it (the network pushed back its premiere nearly a full television year); Paul Reiser is not exactly popular, having disappeared from television and film after the end of "Mad About You"; and the debut episode was the lowest-rated in-season comedy debut ever on NBC, scoring only 3.4 million viewers. (The time slot will be occupied by "The Office" reruns for the rest of the season).
