Students retur in to class after Christmas break were not allowed to attend their school in Lemon Grove. The school board decided that Mexican American and Mexican children were overcrowding their school even though the students lived in the area. The school board also stated that the 75 children were moved for sanitary and moral conditions. The school board wanted the children to go to a smaller school across the tracks. The children went on strike and and the Mexican American parents petitioned the courts to prevent segregation of Mexican American and Mexican children from the school's population. Robert Alvarez was 12 yesterday old and named in the petition.
