Dan Schneider, the former creator and showrunner of Nickelodeon series “All That,” “iCarly,” and “Zoey 101,” is suing the producers of the hit documentary series “Quiet on Set.” IndieWire has obtained the lawsuit.
Schneider says his portrayal in the Investigation Discovery series, which peels the layers back on alleged child abuse — including, in some cases, sexual abuse — on Nickelodeon series of the era, is a “hit job” and that his reputation has been “destroyed” by the popularity of the series. The suit names Warner Bros. Discovery, Maxine Productions, Sony Pictures Television, and directors Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz.
“‘Quiet on Set’s’ portrayal of Schneider is a hit job,” the lawsuit from Schneider’s attorneys Jana Moser and Richard McKie reads. “While it is indisputable that two bona fide child sexual abusers worked on Nickelodeon shows, it is likewise indisputable that Schneider had no knowledge of their abuse, was not complicit in the abuse,...

Dan Schneider has filed a defamation lawsuit against the producers of the Investigation Discovery docuseries “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,” which uncovered alleged abuse and misconduct at Nickelodeon and became Max’s biggest streaming title ever.
The lawsuit, obtained by Variety and filed by Schneider’s attorneys Jana Moser and Richard McKie, reads in part: “‘Quiet on Set’s’ portrayal of Schneider is a hit job. While it is indisputable that two bona fide child sexual abusers worked on Nickelodeon shows, it is likewise indisputable that Schneider had no knowledge of their abuse, was not complicit in the abuse, condemned the abuse once it was discovered and, critically, was not a child sexual abuser himself. But for the sake of clickbait, ratings, and views — or put differently, money — Defendants have destroyed Schneider’s reputation and legacy through the false statements and implications that Schneider is exactly that.

Showrunners are the creative visionaries of a series.
They might not be the original creators, but they cover all aspects of the creative elements, evolve the show's vision, and decide where the story and character arcs will go.
They run the writing rooms, head the development, hire writers, and ensure actors are kept happy and that the budget is not exceeded.
Series are usually a collective effort, with writers giving their thoughts, but showrunners have the final say and are essential.
Where would the industry be without people like Shonda Rhimes, Matt and Ross Duffer (Stranger Things), and Ryan Murphy?
It would be mundane and repetitive.
Intelligent and prolific showrunners are the difference between a hit and a flop.
They set an unwavering tone for their ideas, and consistency is vital.
If the reason you fell in love with a series is altered or gone one day, then the connection created is absent,...

Miranda Cosgrove is recalling an interaction she had with a young iCarly fan that didn’t necessarily go as expected.
During an appearance on Wednesday’s episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, host Kelly Ripa noted how the 30-year-old actress and singer had “not changed very much” since her debut acting role in 2003’s School of Rock at age 9.
“I do sometimes [get recognized],” Cosgrove said in response. “It’s funny because there was a moment when a lot of young kids didn’t really know who I was because [iCarly] hadn’t been on for a while. Then, Netflix got the show and they started playing the old seasons.”
The Mother of the Bride actress went on to recall an encounter she had with a young fan during a recent Target shopping trip.
“There’s a little boy just kind of looking at me in the toy aisle. He kept looking up at me.

In the past year, Latin Mafia have become one of Mexico’s top acts without a record label or album. The trio of brothers, who include Mike and twins Milton and Emilio de La Rosa, have embraced that artistic freedom in their music, which spans reggaeton, trap, R&b, house music, dream pop, among other sounds. At the core of their songs are messages about embracing emotions and mental health awareness. It’s rare when a documentary series makes as big a splash as that created by “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.” The five-part Investigation Discovery docuseries has been seen by an estimated audience of more than 20 million over ID and Max and generated a groundswell of chatter over its revelations about toxic children’s TV production environments – primarily at Nickelodeon in the early 2000s. The filmmakers responsible for the series that premiered on March 17 – executive producer-director Mary Robertson and co-exec producer-director Emma Schwartz – are thrilled at a reaction that they describe variously as “inspiring” and “overwhelming.”
Adds Schwartz: “I think one of the most exciting parts of that is really to see how many people are not just impacted by watching it, but want to take action or improve the environment in which these problems occur. Taking the work to a next level is something you would hope for.

Drake Bell reflected on the response to Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV during an Emmys event in Los Angeles yesterday, saying that he feels like he’s “in the fire right now.”
“Having to tell this sensitive of a story, something I held inside for so many years,” the actor said, according to Deadline. “I’m still reeling from the idea of bearing my soul to the world… Hollywood is a beautiful place, full of fantasy and imagination and fun. But it’s also a completely dark cesspool of disgusting waste.

If you’ve been anywhere near a television in the last couple of years, odds are you’re already familiar with Dominic Burgess. The British actor broke through in 2017’s “Feud: Bette and Joan” as actor Victor Buono, before popping up in a number of memorable appearances — playing everything from serial killer John Wayne Gacy in “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” to an accident-prone man on “The Good Place” whose hideous red boots create an existential crisis for Chidi.
Most recently, the actor has been stealing scenes as Grayman, the stylist to the grande dames (including Kristen Wiig and Allison Janney) on Apple TV’s “Palm Royale” — and as Hamish Moss, a director on the rise on “American Horror Story: Delicate.” That is, he was on the rise before the April 3 episode, in which Moss met a gruesome death at the hands of Kim Kardashian’s devilish publicist.

With ID’s Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV becoming an overnight ratings hit for Investigation Discovery and Max, attention has now turned to a forthcoming fifth episode of the docuseries that promises to dig deeper into the toxic allegations swirling around Dan Schneider’s years at Nickelodeon.
On Thursday, Turner Networks, ID & Hln, linear and streaming president Jason Sarlanis told The Hollywood Reporter the original four-part series, which released March 17 and 18, far exceeded expectations and prompted the network to mobilize and greenlight the bonus episode to air only weeks later.
“We first started talking to [co-directors] Mary [Robertson] and Emma [Schwartz] about [extending the series] right after the trailer dropped,” Sarlanis recalled of the Feb. 8 first look, which featured clips of child stars coming forward with claims of abuse and sexism surrounding iconic kids TV shows of the late 1990s and early 2000s on Nickelodeon.

McKenna Grace reprises her lead role as Phoebe in “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” which led the weekend box office with $45 million. At 17 she is not yet a household name, but she laid some groundwork early: At age six she had a supporting role on the Disney Channel sitcom “Crash & Bernstein.” Later she received an Emmy nomination for her work in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and portrayed the younger selves for the leads in movies like “I, Tonya” and “Captain Marvel.”

Jack Black recently told the news outlet Joe, while making the press rounds for “Kung Fu Panda 4,” that he is more than ready to make a sequel to “School of Rock,” the 2003 comedy classic that was directed by Richard Linklater and written by Mike White. Black has stayed close with his younger co-stars over the years, but a movie sequel has never gotten off the ground. “School of Rock” was adapted into a hit Broadway musical, but perhaps it’s time to get the band back together on the big screen.
“I wish there’d be a ‘School of Rock 2: Electric Boogaloo,'” Black said, referencing the 1984 sequel to the dance musical “Breakin’.” The comedian added: “I’m ready.”

Nickelodeon grew a rep for quietly canceling shows, but this week, they gave advance notice that a popular show will end after 46 episodes. Sometimes, viewers call for shows to get canceled. For example, in 2020 lots of voices rose on Twitter (Now X) and called for the cancelation of Paw Patrol. With the latest cancellation, fans seem a bit unhappy.
Nickelodeon Cancellations And Renewals
Often, shows will just fade quietly away. And other times, new content arrives. Whether it’s the ratings, or just random is sometimes confusing. Instead of canceling Paw Patrol, it ran on and in 2022, another spinoff came that focused on Rubble. Then in 2023, more renewals came with shows like Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Big Nate, and others.

Former Nickelodeon series creator Dan Schneider released a 20-minute interview on his YouTube channel conducted by BooG!e, who played T-Bo on “iCarly,” about some of the allegations made against him in the new ID docuseries, “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.”
“Watching over the past two nights was very difficult,” Schneider said. “Facing my past behaviors, some of which are embarrassing and that I regret. I definitely owe some people a pretty strong apology.”
One element of the special focused on his asking crew members to massage Schneider on set. Although he had previously admitted to and apologized for that behavior through a statement via his team, he spoke more directly to the massages in this interview.
“It was wrong,” Schneider said. “It was wrong that I ever put anybody in that position. It was the wrong thing to do. I’d never do it today.

Various actors and entertainment industry insiders wrote letters in support of Brian Peck, a voice coach and Nickelodeon actor who was convicted of child sexual abuse, as revealed in Investigation Discovery’s Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.
As explained in the docuseries that aired Sunday and Monday nights, Peck was arrested in August 2003 on 11 charges of child sexual abuse. Dan Schneider ruled the 90s and early 2000s television; producing and directing one hit show after another. Schneider’s shows like, The Amanda Show, together with sitcoms Kenan & Kel, Drake & Josh, Zoey 101, iCarly, and Victorious gave the industry some of its biggest names.
However, Schneider’s golden era went downhill very quickly when many stars stepped out during the MeToo moment. It is not lost on the masses that many have stayed tight-lipped on the matter. The most prominent name on that list is Ariana Grande’s.

There isn’t an ideal place for the public to discuss child abuse allegations, but for now, TikTok might be our best option. That’s a precarious position for young entertainers and their advocates to be in as the U.S. government once again moves to ban the social media platform.
On Sunday, March 17, ID Network’s “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” began its deep dive into the toxic workplace allegations and child abuse reports that emerged out of Nickelodeon following Dan Schneider’s ousting in 2018. Update on March 20:
Dan Schneider has released an apology video following the release of the “Quiet on Set” documentary. “Watching over the past two nights was very difficult,” Schneider said in part regarding the series. “Facing my past behaviors, some of which are embarrassing and that I regret. I definitely owe some people a pretty strong apology.”
Original story:
Dan Schneider has responded to allegations about his behavior during his time at Nickelodeon.
