Why was this such a difficult case?!
planktonrules9 October 2014
The main theme in this case involves an injury Bell receives when he's riding his bike. He hits a pot hole and his bike is badly damaged-- but more importantly, his arm is injured and he loses a job because of this. Very clearly he's been injured and just as clearly the city bears some responsibility to compensate him because of the state of the road. However, and this really annoyed me, the show presented this as if Bell probably did not have a case and he really had to scramble to put on a good argument to win in court. I don't understand this and I think ANYONE who has never been to law school could have presented a more intelligent case than Bell (with help from his other second-year friends) and the case sure seemed cut and dry, so they say. Likewise, when Kingsfield was subpoenaed to testify (since he witnessed the accident), this was made to seem very wild and amazing because he was subpoenaed--but ANYONE witnessing an accident would be called in to court to testify. And, the cross-examination of the man by Bell was, quite simply, incompetent. And these folks are all supposed to be going to the best law school in America?! Weakly written but enjoyable enough.
