A good introduction to a pleasant series
shakspryn9 March 2021
This is the enjoyable first episode of this two-season show, which aired from 1965 to 1967, and it is the only black and white episode. As the introductory episode, the focus is naturally on showing the main characters; there is only one very brief appearance by a guest actor, a milkman, who will be familiar to fans of old-time TV shows. Pat Crowley and Mark Miller, the adult couple, are both very appealing and I liked them right away. Their four young sons in the show are also likable, and the big, shaggy sheepdog is great! The dog gets a nice bit of screen time. There is no "gimmick" to this show: no magical genies or witches. It is about a loving married couple, which I appreciated! The humor is kindly and it is good entertainment. This was an MGM show, and I am looking forward to seeing what use they make of the back lot; I hope they used it some. The huge castle-like Victorian mansion shown must be a matte painting or a shot of some mansion someplace; MGM had lots of back lot buildings, but not a castle like this! The interior sets are fun and interesting; you feel like you're in a fancy old Victorian mansion, sometimes. Looking forward to seeing the color episodes! Recommended for a nice way to spend a half hour. Especially if you are a fan of the charming Patricia Crowley!
