Dexter season 2......The Dark passenger returns
wadetalon17 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This has been bouncing around the internet since mid July apparently , I caught it online yesterday all I can say is...WOW. The second season kicks straight in thirty nine days after the events of season 1. There is a brief re-cap, then we fall right into Dexter's dark world for a brand new tale of serial killing and general mayhem.

Dexter has a problem Doakes is tracking his every move and he cant quench his thirst for the kill. He is on edge and slowly going nuts. Debra has moved in with Dex as she is afraid to be alone after her boyfriend turned out to be a serial killer and she is slowly grating on Dexters nerves. This sets up what looks like another amazing season of a great series. There is stuff happening with everyone in this episode from Rita (Dexter's girlfriend) to some hilarious moments with Angel Batista and his new spiritual awakening courtesy of an Oprah rerun

Dexter struggles with saying goodbye to the brother he was briefly re-united with at the end of season 1 This leads to some nice scenes with Dexter milling over what he has done and leads to him actually letting one of his prey go. The end of the episode is just brilliant and this was just the first episode!. Im so looking forward to watching this season unfold. This show deserves to be seen by everyone its amazing great story great acting just pure 10/10 entertainment

All of Dexter's strengths are demonstrated while new dynamics are added
Xerces8810 January 2008
This is probably the best episode yet of Dexter.

It's been 38 days since Dexter's last kill and he is in desperate need for a fix. Sgt. Doakes has been watching him like a hawk, so he has had to try blend in even more than before. How better to blend in than to join a bowling team with Angel! The opening narration mirroring the pilot episode was hilarious as the reality behind it was revealed.

Everything I love about Dexter was in this episode. The show took a different turn and many new dynamics were added to the mix. All of the characters stories are introduced and begin to take shape in this episode, with Dexter dealing with quite a number of conflicts in this episode alone.

A promising start
rolandddd23 May 2012
What really works in this episode is the portrayal of he obvious distress Dexter finds himself in when his usual murderous routines are interrupted. It is clear to the viewer that living the everyday life of normal people is taking its toll on him. Sgt Doakes is watching his every step and Dexter knows that the best way to get rid of the unwelcome surveillance is to act normally, and he even joins his colleagues' bowling team in an effort to rid himself of his foe.

The episode also deals with Debra trying to get back to a normal working routine after her horrifying experiences of season 1. However, this is dealt with in a rather short way, which I think is unfortunate since I feel it it interesting enough to expand a lot more.

It takes nearly 20 minutes until we see something resembling a regular plot line, but the real interesting twist occurs a good half hour into it, and it fascinated me, and it is clear that these events will affect the rest of the season.

Overall, a good first episode which nicely summarizes the events of the first season and at the same time sets the tone for what promises to be a very interesting second season.

Here We Go Again!
g-bodyl11 June 2014
This is the season opener of the second season of Dexter and it doesn't disappoint. It still has the same, sly dark humor we have been accustomed to with the first season. The acting is terrific and it shows how perfectly casted Michael C. Hall was. There are some surprises here and this episode ended with a scene that will truly make your heart beat fast.

In this episode, "It's Alive!" Dexter has trouble killing anyone because Doakes is on his tail believing something is wrong with him. Meanwhile, Dexter's sister is back at work, five weeks after almost being killed by her psycho fiancé. Also, Rita is being pressured by her ex-husband to bring down Dexter even though she believes Dexter has nothing to do with this.

Overall, this is a fantastic opener to the season. It's acted well and it's really tense despite some comedy. By the end of the episode, Dexter realizes he may be facing a lot more trouble than he did with the Ice Truck Killer. I rate this episode 9/10.

The Return of Dexter
claudio_carvalho8 July 2010
After saving Debra from the Ice Truck Killer, Dexter feels frustrated for not having murdered any criminal for thirty-eight days. Further, Sergeant James Doakes suspects of him and is keeping Dexter under his surveillance. Dexter tries to kill an evil voodooist but his anxiety affects his feelings and he is unable to execute his intended victim. Meanwhile Debra returns to the police station apparently recovered but actually still traumatized with her affair with the serial-killer. Rita is pressed by her imprisoned husband Paul Bennett to seek the shoe he claims that he had lost in her house and he informs that the federal facility is too dangerous for his league. When the dangerous criminal Little Chino is released from the police station since the evidences of his murder would not be accepted by the justice, Dexter sees the chance to recover his old shape. Meanwhile, two treasure hunters find the spot where Dexter dumps the corpses of his victims while searching a galleon in a breach on the bottom of the sea.

"It's Alive!" another great episode of this show with the return of Dexter. The disturbed character demonstrates that is really addicted in killing and the Second Season begins showing Dexter desperate for his long abstinence. His sister Debra is also disturbed with her ordeal with Dexter's brother, the notorious Ice Truck Killer. And the unstable Rita now is affected by the revelation of the happening with Paul in the federal prison. The delicious Julie Benz partially naked is one of the best moments of this show. My vote is eight.

Dexter's lost his killer instinct in this solid season opener.
chillwill9221 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Considering the two episodes that preceded the season 2 premiere "It's Alive!" was a small letdown, in addition to the fact that Dexter does not kill in the episode. Although it must be said that it wasn't for lack of trying. In this premiere, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) and sis Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) are both trying to shake off the cobwebs of season 1. Due to inner turmoil over Brian's death, Dexter finds himself unable to commit murder. He's also dealing with Sgt. Doakes (Erik King), who has taken to following him in order to prove that our favorite serial killer is bad news. He has to live a relentlessly normal life until Doakes gets off his back. Deb, meanwhile, is suffering from post-traumatic stress due to her horrifying encounter with boyfriend/attempted murderer Brian Moser. In addition, Rita (Julie Benz) is concerned that Dexter may have framed her ex-husband Paul (Mark Pellegrino), as all of Paul's theories fall in line with evidence she has found. Paul's prison death only adds to this guilt on her part, and you can tell that things are going to come to a boil between her and Dexter soon. But most important is the final revelation: that Dexter's many bodies have been discovered. Dexter is going to be on the run for the majority of this season, and this premiere does a great job of setting that up.

Dexter absolutely rocks!

Warning: Spoilers
Dexter is simply the best thing on television these days. Dark, funny, dramatic, GREAT acting, GREAT writing, it's got it all. The scene on the ocean floor with all the hefty bags is jaw dropping. The first show of season 2 has everything setup for the rest of the season. The character development is awesome, so many things happening, yet easy to follow the storyline (unlike that twisted piece of junk John From Cincinatti). Everyone in the Dexter family, keep up the great work! Surely the show will get more media and critical attention, just stay the course and the rewards will follow. Cannot wait to see what twists and turns are revealed in season 2.

Strong start
dannylee-7808219 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
1. Dexter couldn't kill. Dexter couldn't get it up.

2. Doakes stalks. Dexter is screwed but actually likes it 3. Rita is a savage now but Paul's dead

I think this is a perfect continuation of what they left off in season 1. No plots were dropped or discontinued and just the right amount of anticipation added to the rest of the series as Dexter faces some sort of a block to killing now and his body stash discovered. Super hype!

The welcome return of Dexter Morgan
DVD_Connoisseur10 July 2008
"It's Alive!" is a splendidly entertaining start to the second season of "Dexter". Rich with dark humour, this episode hits the ground running.

Dexter's a frustrated man at the start of this season. Things just aren't working out for him, largely due to the ever-present Doakes (Erik King).

Michael C. Hall is perfectly cast as the "moral" serial killer, trained by his late father (James Remar). In lesser hands, Dexter could appear an unsympathetic character but Hall ensures the audience is always rooting for him.

Jennifer Carpenter is always a pleasure to watch. Her portrayal of Dexter's sister is also spot-on.

9 out of 10. I simply can't wait for the next episode to arrive. With numerous plot threads already up-and-running, this should prove an excellent season.

Underwater Graveyard [9/10]

Warning: Spoilers
My Reaction / Review for Dexter Season 2 Episode 1 ''It's Alive!'' (S2. E1): Season 1 was awesome and I give it a rating of 9.5/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. So Doakes keeps following Dex everywhere he goes, doesn't he have to do anything else with his life? Dex suddenly cant kill? That's new. I see they recast Rita's son, that sucks. Damn this Little Chino guy is a giant. It's going to be very hard for Dex to capture this dude. Wow did these men find Dexter's sea graveyard? That's not good. Little Chino escaped? That's such bad news. Now it will be ten times harder to catch him. Paul is dead? I really don't care, bye Paul. Overall an amazing episode, my rating is 9/10.

Doakes: Can we please secure this motherf*cking crime scene?
antisocial12 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Dex takes up bowling with the guys from work, to try and rid Doakes off his tail.

Nice body Julie Benz!!!! more please.

Doakes: What's that a titty site? (hehe) Putting up something you'd close if someone came by doesn't really help his cause, so I don't really understand this. Why would Dex be mocking Doakes if he wants to get rid of him.

Stupid new lieutenant and Laguerta convo's are getting annoying and are wasting valuable screen time.

What's with the kid that he compares with himself, the look she has looks nothing like the look he had as a child.

Dex finds out his bodies have been found at the end, so you're excited for next ep. However this one falls a little flat of where the first season finished, but thankfully it turns out to be a wonderful season.

Garbage
skay_baltimore2 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Doakes is annoying.

Rita is even MORE annoying. (I am so sick of all her passive-aggressive dysfunctional behavior. I can't believe she's in 30 more episodes. I literally end up fast forwarding through her scenes.)

The inter-office politics at Miami Metro are annoying.

In short...this entire show was one big annoyance.

(And if that's not annoying enough...there aren't enough lines in this review to pass IMDb muster.)

(So I have to add a few more lines detailing just how annoying this episode was.)
