What Have They Done To The Man Of Steel?
jeremycrimsonfox19 July 2019
While I do like this show, this episode is okay, but has many problems. While it has a good story that teaches Supergirl not to go for glory, the problem here is she is ignored by the crowd. Why, because of Superman.

Yes, Superman, the man of steel, makes his debut here, and sadly, the writers messed him up horribly. Instead of the noble hero who fights for truth, justice, and the American Way, DC Super Hero Girls 2019 (as I will call this) basically reduces the hero to a superjerk who has let the glory and attention inflate his ego way too much, and the people of Metropolis treat him like their lord and savior to the point where he takes credit for Supergirl saving the world. I can understand Hal Jordan being scared of Star Sapphire (since she's obsessive to the point where she wants to force him to date her again), but what they did to Superman is unforgivable. Lauren Faust, if you are reading this, you need to make an episode where he accepts Supergirl as a heroine and stop making him act like a jerk to her or other heroes.

SuperWho cares about this?

Warning: Spoilers
My thoughts on this episode is stated right in it: childish. For the most part, it's hellbent on this idea of "girl power" and making Kara better in the eyes of the public ("#TheGoodTheBadAndTheBizarro" anyone?). To put it simply, this episode does not do it well.

The episode's first half is way better than the second half. Throughout this section here, it's way more calm in terms of annoying me. Kara is a little over the top, but it's somewhat understandable when your rival is everywhere you go... despite the two heroes having barely any differences in terms of their heroicness. Most of it is just a weird form of an exposition dump in a chemistry class.

The second half is downright stupid. Most of it is just Supergirl and Superman fighting over the dumbest thing, and it is not at all fun to watch their weak babblings. At least the episode gets somewhat better in the ending where Kara saves the town despite getting 0 credit (foreshadowing from Jessica's article and the chemistry class, kinda clever in that sense). It fits with the okay moral despite it being really annoying to Kara's goal (the person we are supposed to be rooting for) in this episode.

It's weak.
