Harry Hickox: Sheriff John Elder

Quotes

  • Sheriff Elder : I was in the Tropicana last night, Rod, when a breeze from the Old South blew in - money, charm and a Pekingese dog. Does that sound familiar?

    Lt. Rod Blake : No.

Sheriff Elder : Six months ago, a man named Grant from Minneapolis met a wealthy widow in Jacksonville, Florida... fell in love, proposed to her. She took him for thirty thousand and disappeared.

Lt. Rod Blake : Same description, all right. Did you contact Jacksonville?

Sheriff Elder : I wired for a sample of her handwriting; I also called Minneapolis. They're checking with this man Grant. Originally, he wouldn't sign a complaint.

    Lt. Rod Blake : Why?

Sheriff Elder : He couldn't believe he'd been taken. He felt sorry for the woman. Thought maybe she'd gotten into some kind of trouble. That's the only reason he went to the police.

Lt. Rod Blake : Well, he was right about one thing.

    Sheriff Elder : Oh?

Lt. Rod Blake : She is in trouble.
