"Ours not to reason why; Ours but to do and die," is derived from the poem "The Charge of the Light Brigade" by Alfred Lord Tennyson. The poem was about the English campaign during the Crimean War against the Russians (Oct 5, 1853 - Mar 30, 1856).

This episode is the first of multiple appearances of Harold Perrineau as Det. Armstrong. He and Richard T Jones both appeared together in multiple episodes of Criminal Minds during its 12th season. On that show, Perrineau was Calvin Shaw a former FBI agent in prison for killing his informant and Jones portrayed Officer Lionel Wilkins, a guard in the prison.
