Historically inaccurate

What a dumb movie, full of lies and misrepresentations of a really decent man. In 1815 when this movie takes place Davy has already lost his wife Polly in March, and has 2 sons and a daughter. He didn't support the Indian Removal Act which wasn't introduced until 1830 Nonsense scenes of wolves attacking him and 'taming' horses already so tame they came up to his camp in the woods. Where do these Hollywood directors come up with this malarkey. Davy's life was already so interesting its too bad they didn't make a movie about that! Colm Meaney does a good job of playing an a--hole. The whole Northwest Fur Trading Company in the Southest - hmmm, that company was mostly in Canada. Beautiful scenery though.

Historical Fiction Family Friendly

This movie was refreshing as a story about a character Davey Crocket we grew up learning about. The movie is filmed in TN with beautiful scenes of nature . Family based moved with a positive story on how people can see people not like them one way and and can be changed to unity and friendship.

My children 11, 9, and 4 watch this film and it held their attention. I don't remember any bad language. The film has two boys it follows that take care of chores out of necessity and my kids enjoyed seeing how a family in the 1800s lived compared to today. No TVs or electronics you eat what you kill and play with what you have.

The bad guy in this film makes this B budget movie in an A experience.

Awful DC movie

Warning: Spoilers
This would've been a B level movie if it hadn't been misrepresented as a Davy Crockett movie.

It's fully inaccurate and has a nonsense storyline that shows DC shoot his own horse instead of the wolf chasing it, save an Indian, get beat up repeatedly after his kids steal a dead beaver and then ultimately saved from further beatings by the Indian he earlier saved.

As a DC historian & movie buff, I found it to be repulsive. Even my 10 year old daughter thought it was a disgusting treatment to a man who led such an interesting life that no fictionalization was required.

It appeared to have been filmed in TN and had some pretty scenery but it doesn't overcome the disgusting & weak plot. Avoid this movie.

maudlin

Crockett is an interesting figure, the second American celebrity in our history (after Franklin) and there's been no extensive serious film portrayal. A good movie on Davy is needed but this isn't the one.

The only thing this film has going for it is good production values. The plot is saccharine to the point of silliness (think Perils of Pauline,1914). Colm Meany is a solid actor but is annoying in some of the jejune scripts he has joined (e.g., Alleged, 2010).

Unless this film was targeting evangelicals I can't see why any thinking producer would have approved the script. Nothing here for any adult audience. Maybe we need another film rating category: N for niche audience.
