When Marvel Studios announced that they would be making a film on Marvel’s First Family, fans couldn’t be more excited. After a few failed attempts at bringing them to life the Marvel Cinematic Universe ignited fans’ hope that justice will finally be done to the fan-favorite characters. However, after Pedro Pascal was cast as Mister Fantastic a.k.a. Reed Richards, fans were a bit disappointed.

And when Rahul Kohli, the top choice for fans to play Reed Richards, talked about not getting the role, fans were infuriated. After all, the man looks strikingly similar to the comic book character. Things got so out of hand that Rahul Kohli himself had to address the situation and apologize for allowing things to blow out of proportion.

The film adaptation of popular comic strip “Natacha (Almost) Air Hostess” boasts an all-star cast.
The cast includes Camille Lou (“Anthracite”), Vincent Dedienne (“We Can Be Heroes”), Fabrice Luchini (“The Empire”), Didier Bourdon (“Cocorico), Elsa Zylberstein (“Coup de Chance”), Isabelle Adjani (“Wingwomen”) and Baptiste Lecaplain (“Meet the Leroys”).
The film is loosely based on the comic strip of the same name created by screenwriter François Walthéry, which was published by Editions Dupuy, and which comprises 23 albums and has sold more than five million copies.
The story follows Natacha, who, since she was a child, has dreamed of becoming an air hostess so that she can break free from the constraints of an age where women are expected to remain at home. Just as her dream is on the verge of becoming a reality, she finds herself involved against her will on an adventure on the trail of a bunch of...

Austin, TX – The 2024Sxsw Conference and Festivals wrapped on March 16th, after nine days of magic and Austin wackiness, showcasing film, TV, interactive, conferences, interviews and music. The Film & TV Fest named “Bob Trevino Likes It” as the top Narrative Feature and “Marvin is Sorry” as top TV Pilot.
The Narrative Jury included Chicago critic Robert Daniels. The Jury’s statement about “Bob Trevino Likes It” was “Tracie Laymon’s semi-autobiographical story of a struggling young woman who finds anchor in an unlikely connection feels at once familiar and yet surprising. Laymon’s sure hand transforms what might have been saccharine into something raw thanks to vulnerable lead performances from Barbie Ferreira and an unusually uncool John Leguizamo. Refreshingly real and wrenchingly bittersweet, “Bob Trevino Likes It” stole our hearts and earned this prize.”

Jesse Moss and Amanda McBaine’s Boys State and Girls State have carved out an appealing niche by asking the provocative question, “What would government be like if teenage boys or teenage girls were in charge?”
Erasing the confines of gender binary and reality, Carina Mia Wong and Alex Simmons’ We Can Be Heroes works as a companion text by asking, “What would an alternate world be like if it could be wholly reimagined by teenagers?”
All three documentaries are explorations of power, opportunities to see the best (and occasionally worst) of what might happen when an ascending generation takes on its destined roles as leaders, learners, heroes and villains.
We Can Be Heroes is a documentary that makes your heart swell and makes you instantly protective of its young subjects, except that for over 86 minutes you watch those subjects slay demons and reshape a dying universe. These kids may...

Pedro Pascal, known for his roles in hit shows like The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, recently shared his experience on the set of Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated sequel, Gladiator 2. He wasn’t just impressed, he was blown away by the sheer scale and detail of the production.
Pedro Pascal as Marcus Moreno in We Can Be Heroes.
The upcoming film, Gladiator 2, serves as a follow-up to Ridley Scott’s 2000 blockbuster Gladiator, which earned an Oscar. The original movie told the story of Maximus, a former general turned slave (played by Russell Crowe), who fights in the gladiator arena in the Roman Empire while seeking vengeance for the tragic murder of his family.

In an interview, acclaimed actor Pedro Pascal gave insight into his intense process for memorizing lines, forged after an embarrassing on-set incident earlier in his career. While showing his intricate notebook method of scribbling down dialogue cues, Pascal referred to his process as “psychotic” a necessity after once mortifyingly forgetting his lines mid-scene.

Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail assembled an impressive cast for his thriller Leave the World Behind that included Julia Roberts (Homecoming), Ethan Hawke (The Black Phone), and Mahershala Ali (True Detective) – but he also delivered a divisive movie that earned reactions that ranged from “wildly riveting and entertaining” and “absolutely amazing” to “hideously bad” and “absolutely awful”. JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray gave the film a 5/10 review that you can read at This Link. I would have scored it higher, I was just left wanting a little more from the ending. Despite the wildly varying reactions, the movie has proven to be quite popular on the Netflix streaming service – in fact, the view count over its first couple months of release has landed it on Netflix’s Top 10 Most Popular Movies list!

Perhaps the biggest movie news of the week dropped a few days ago, which is that Pedro Pascal has been cast as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic in Marvel Studios' upcoming "Fantastic Four" film. After breaking out as Oberyn Martell on "Game of Thrones," Pascal has been a part of other major projects like "Narcos," "Wonder Woman 1984," "The Mandalorian," and "The Last of Us." By joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is Pascal at risk of becoming overexposed?
Perhaps not. As /Film's Ryan Scott points out on today's episode of the /Film Daily podcast, Pascal is a terrific performer, but his past few years have not exactly been overflowing with hits. "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent," in which he co-starred opposite Nicolas Cage, made less than $30 million worldwide. "The Bubble," "We Can Be Heroes," and "Triple Frontier" quickly disappeared into the Netflix netherworld. "The Last of Us" seemed like a big deal,...

Writer/director Robert Rodriguez returns to the Spy Kids well after a 12-year hiatus, with an all-new spy family but an all-too-familiar story. I say all-too-familiar as Spy Kids: Armageddon essentially retreads the same plot as the original film – two kids, Tony (Connor Esterson) and Patty (Everly Carganilla), grow up completely oblivious to the fact their parents, Terrence Tango (Zachary Levi) and Nora Torrez (Gina Rodriguez), are spies working for the Oss. Like I said, familiar, right?

The “Spy Kids” are back, and director Robert Rodriguez is once again spearheading the franchise through a soft reboot — this time for Netflix.
The clever, kids-have-to-be-spys-after-their-spy-parents-are-captured conceit returns in “Spy Kids: Armageddon” (now streaming), the fifth film in the franchise and one yet again written and directed by series creator Rodriguez. This time it’s a new family, led by Gina Rodriguez and Zachary Levi, who are battling an evil game designer (Billy Magnussen). Thankfully, their kids (Connor Esterson and Everly Carganilla) spring into action. It’s got a ton of humor, a ton of heart, some classically “Spy Kids”-y action and some brand-new gadgets. What more could you want?
TheWrap spoke to Rodriguez, whose first “Spy Kids” movie premiered in 2001, about returning to the franchise, what other of his movies he would want to revisit and whether there’ll be another “Alita: Battle Angel” movie.

With writers off the picket lines, they might consider news pitches to address what’s clearly an underfed genre: Movie star as comedienne, and we’re not talking rom-coms.
Cases in point: Well, there’s the Margot Robbie juggernaut that is “Barbie” (Warner Bros.), with its $630 million domestic/over $1.4 billion worldwide theatrical take to date. Perhaps even more relevant is “No Hard Feelings” (Sony), a totally original project that didn’t have the benefit of an iconic Mattel doll as its core IP.
As expected, “Barbie” repeated as #1 on all charts. However, “Feelings” — starring and produced by Jennifer Lawrence as an Uber driver hired to elevate the confidence of a shy 19-year-old entering college — has remained on or near #1 since it hit home viewing in early August.
“Feelings” grossed $50 million in domestic theaters and another $36 million foreign, which isn’t great when it cost $45 million before marketing.
However, its home performance — initially as a $19.99 PVOD,...

After more than a decade away, Robert Rodriguez is bringing back "Spy Kids." This time, the filmmaker has re-teamed with Netflix following 2020's "We Can Be Heroes" to reboot the once-popular kid-friendly action franchise with "Spy Kids: Armageddon." Today, we got a new look at the film in the form of a trailer, which sets up the series with a new cast for a new generation. 22 years after the original became a big hit, it's time to smack the restart button.
The cast is led by Gina Rodriguez ("Jane the Virgin") and Zachary Levi ("Shazam!") as the new parents whose kids discover that they are actually spies. The cast also includes Everly Carganilla ("Yes Day") and Connor Esterson ("Chad") as the kids in question, with Billy Magnussen ("No Time to Die"), and D.J. Cotrona ("Shazam! Fury of the Gods") rounding out the ensemble. What does "Spy Kids" look like in 2023? Let's take a gander.

You can call the DC superhero movies a lot of things, but “consistent” isn’t one of them. Even the intentionally interconnected films of the DC Extended Universe vary wildly and unpredictably in quality, with instant classics like “Wonder Woman” and “Shazam!” followed up by giant misfires like “Wonder Woman 1984” and “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” (and those were from the same filmmakers).
So after “The Flash” turned out be a historic disaster on many levels, you could be forgiven for wanting give up on this mixed bag of a franchise as-is and wait patiently for the next reboot. Or, failing that, the next-next reboot, because if there’s one thing DC loves it’s completely redoing a superhero universe, over and over again in every medium.
But that’s a pretty rotten state of mind with which to enter a theater showing “Blue Beetle,” which is a delightful...

Netflix, which used to guard its ratings from the public like the Mona Lisa, is changing up its own viewership metrics for greater transparency.
Previously, the streaming giant ranked its Top 10 shows and movies based on hours viewed. It also cut off its all-time Most Popular lists at 28 days of available viewership. Now, the weekly Top 10 will be ranked by “views” (hours viewed divided by runtime) and the all-time lists are being elongated by nine weeks, to 91 days.
That’s a full quarter of a year, the same basis on which Netflix and other publicly traded companies report their financial results. It’s important to Netflix that the number be divisible by seven, to capture a whole number of weeks. It’s why the old way was 28 days, not 30 or 31, and why it’s now 91, not 90.
Our delayed-viewing culture gives credence to those additional 63 days. It’s true, as Netflix...

Every month it seems like a new film or TV show crashes its way into Netflix’s lists of their most popular titles. First unveiled in June 2021, the streamer’s four Top 10 lists — for English TV, English Film, non-English TV, and non-English Film — are getting a shake-up, and the changes mean that there’s a new English language series that will take the crown as the streamer’s most popular show.
“Wednesday” has now usurped “Stranger Things” Season 4 as the most viewed English-language series on Netflix. That’s because under a new model for tracking the Top 10, the ranking will now be determined by the number of times a series or movie is viewed rather than its raw number of hours.

Director Robert Rodriguez‘s action thriller Hypnotic, which stars Ben Affleck (Air), has taken a bumpy road on its way out into the world. It was delayed by the pandemic, shut down on three separate occasions, mixed up in an insurance lawsuit, and its main financier and distributor crumbled while it was filming. The movie spent two years in post-production, without a domestic distributor in place. It finally reached theatres earlier this month, courtesy of Ketchup Entertainment – and now it has received a digital release on all major platforms! For example, Hypnotic can be viewed on Amazon at This Link.
Scripted by Rodriguez (Machete) and Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island), Hypnotic sees Affleck taking on the role of a detective who finds himself spiralling down a rabbit hole while investigating a series of reality-bending crimes mysteriously connected to his missing daughter. Aided by a gifted psychic, he is pursued by...

NHS workers are heroes who put up with a staggering amount of stress in their working lives, but has any medical professional been through more than Holby City Hospital’s Charlie Fairhead? As news arrives that actor Derek Thompson is finally hanging up his scrubs and leaving BBC medical drama Casualty this autumn after 37 years, the only question to ask is… what took him so long?
Most of us would leave a job after getting shot in the chest by a schizophrenic killer. Not Charlie. We’d probably bow out after our first heart attack instead of keeping going after the third. We’d likely retreat to a less public-facing role after dealing with a single crazed gunman in the workplace, not sail through multiple hostage situations while while also rescuing colleagues from a variety of life-threatening situations from tunnel collapses to freezing waters, watching two wives die, almost losing...

Remember when actors appearing in multiple giant franchises seemed like a huge deal? Now that IP rules Hollywood, hardly anyone even bats an eye anymore when a "Star Wars" fave joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe or a DC Universe actor plays the Big Bad in the latest "Fast & Furious" movie. That's doubly the case when it comes to Disney-owned projects, between the studio's live-action and animation divisions, Pixar, the MCU, Lucasfilm, and its former Fox studios. This can lead to some amusing coincidences though, like that time Ewan McGregor went from playing sad, older Christopher Robin in the live-action "Winnie the Pooh" sequel "Christopher Robin" to playing sad, older Obi-Wan Kenobi in the live-action "Star Wars" series "Obi-Wan Kenobi."
Surprisingly, of all things it's filmmaker Rob Savage's "The Boogeyman" that marks the latest crossing of the streams among Disney properties. The upcoming horror movie, adapted from Stephen King...

The singer, 37, who rose to fame with the pop punk band which produced hits including Year 3000 and Crashed The Wedding, performed in disguise as Rhino throughout the ITV series.
Simpson performed three times across Saturday’s finale show and beat Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson, who was disguised as Phoenix, and All Saints star Natalie Appleton, who was hiding behind the Fawn mask.
The Busted star admitted he did not expect to win the show and just tried to “remember the lyrics and have fun”.

How to describe Pedro Pascal’s Joel in HBO’s new zombie survival series The Last of Us? Taciturn, perhaps. Grizzled. Gruff, even. Yeah, but he’s got a good heart, too. If that sounds familiar, it’s because the loveable antihero is one of Hollywood’s most enduring tropes. “Men want to be him, women want to be with him” – so the sleazy old James Bond proverb goes. The antihero can often be found draining a shot alone at a bar, but the alcohol never affects him, such is his hardened experience as a drinker. He can, if needs be, knock out an aggressor with a powerful haymaker, but only if he really must. The allure of the reluctant warrior, weary but ever-reliable in a crisis, goes back decades, but has rarely been played so competently as by Pascal. Perhaps the greatest endorsement of his charm is his selection...

To celebrate the release of Eight For Silver – released on DVD & Blu-ray 30th January – we have a Blu-ray up for grabs!
Flickering candles, fog, and a ferocious beast in the forest… get ready for a fresh spin on the werewolf film, Eight For Silver, written and directed by Oscar and Bafta-nominated Sean Ellis. The film boasts a superb cast, including Boyd Holbrook (The Sandman) and Cannes-winner Kelly Reilly (Yellowstone), in an eerie story about a small town in 19th century France menaced by an ancient curse.
Sumptuously shot, packed with frights and superb special effects, with a mesmerising, spine-tingler of a score, and featuring a scarecrow “that’ll haunt your dreams” (Bloody Disgusting), the film recalls, according to Screen Daily “everything from Hammer to The Innocents, Dracula to creepy country house Gothic horror”.

HBO has given viewers the first glimpse of Pedro Pascal (We Can Be Heroes) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) in the upcoming television adaptation of the popular video game franchise The Last of Us. The footage was shown in a newly released “coming soon” video (watch below), which teased many of the premium network’s upcoming shows, including Succession, The White Lotus, Avenue 5, and The Weeknd’s The Idol. The brief clip comes at the end of the video and sees Pascal and Ramsey’s characters, Joel and Ellie, navigating a post-apocalyptic world. “Everybody I’ve cared for has either died or left me,” Ellie says over footage of Joel teaching her how to hold a gun. “You have no idea what loss is,” Joel responds. The clip also sees Joel and Ellie crossing a frost-covered bridge, inspecting a potential poison fungus, and running from what appears to be a spreading fire.

Lyn and a guest have been summoned to Staufen House by the estimable Dr. Justus Frost. I’m not sure if that sounds more ominous or pretentious, but either way Lyn and her guest, boyfriend Elijah are on their way to the doctor’s retreat.
Joining them for the weekend are Tara, a famous and full of herself media personality, and Joe an entrepreneur specializing in self-help programs. They have a messy divorce in common, his fourth no less.
Writer Yuri Baranovsky and director Mark Meir lay on the tropes right from The Summoned’s opening scenes. A cryptic prologue, a creepy encounter on the drive to the retreat, undercurrents of trouble between Lyn and Elijah, etc. And, as you might expect, he also turns out to be the only...

Robert Rodriguez has found his new “Spy Kids” (and their parents). Gina Rodriguez, Zachary Levi, Everly Carganilla and newcomer Connor Esterson have been cast as the franchise’s new family. They take over from Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara, who starred in the first three “Spy Kids” movies.
The logline for the new movie is pure “Spy Kids” nuttiness: “When the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful Game Developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology, they must become spies themselves to save their parents and the world.” Considering the previous movie’s knack for casting fun actors in the villain role, expect the evil Game Developer to be cast in a similarly delightful way.
