Self depreciation was a big part of Des O'Connor's humour. In full page newspaper ads to promote the new series, text over an image of a laughing Des read:
"An all round entertainer, a popular singer and a hilarious comedian."
"In his new series starting tonight at 8.00pm, Des O'Connor chats to all three of them."

This edition did not make the ITV Top 10.
One element of Des's chat show that might frustrate some viewers is that the interviews, particularly with the comedians, are clearly pre-planned, with Des's "questions" sometimes little more than a feed to lead into the guest's established comedy routines.
This element of the series received a sly dig in the listings pages of the Newcastle Evening Chronicle (11th September 1984) who previewed the show with: "The usual format of starry guests, well-rehearsed spontaneity and gags."
