Update, September 22: Martin Scorsese, a frequent collaborator of Chapman’s, has issued the following statement following the cinematographer’s passing: “I consider myself so fortunate to have been able to work with Michael Chapman. Michael and I made three films together—’Taxi Driver,’ ‘The Last Waltz,’ and ‘Raging Bull,’ and he brought something rare and irreplaceable to each of them.”
Scorsese continues, “I remember when ‘Taxi Driver’ came out and Michael became known as a ‘poet of the streets’—I think that was the wording, and it seemed right to me. Michael was the one who really controlled the visual palette of ‘The Last Waltz,’ and on ‘Raging Bull’ he and his team met every single challenge—and there were so many. One of the greatest of those challenges was shooting in black and white, which Michael had never done before, a fact that still astonishes me. His relationship...

His spouse, screenwriter and film director Amy Holden Jones’ Facebook page confirmed the news of his death, writing: “Michael Chapman ASC, love of my entire adult life, has passed. Until we meet again.”
He was nominated for two Oscars for best cinematography, for “Raging Bull” — with its distinctive black and white photography — and “The Fugitive.”
Chapman began his film career as a camera operator, working on projects such as Hal Ashby’s “The Landlord,” “The Godfather” and “Jaws.” He cited his mentor, Gordon Willis, the director of Ashby’s “The Last Detail,” French cinematographer Raoul Coutard and Scorsese, with whom he collaborated several times, as people who impacted him greatly.

Exploitation films were thriving in the ‘70s, and everything was excess. Why have one naked woman when you could have four, or settle for one onscreen flaying when clearly several are in order? Maybe watching Mansion of the Doomed (1976) you’d be content with a single case of eye transplant surgery instead of the six offered? Well, you’d be wrong. This is a film that leans heavy on the nihilism and nastiness of the times, with nary an existential answer yet plenty to talk about.
Doomed seems to be the key word in the title that permeates nearly every frame; other titles include Eyes, Massacre Mansion, and The Terror of Dr. Chaney, with the latter perhaps being the most apropos considering the moral dilemma lies completely on his shoulders. But Mansion of the Doomed works because, well, that mansion is packed with the doomed, protags and antags alike.

If the realm of scripted television is a “choppa,” then it appears that Arnold Schwarzenegger will, for the first time in his illustrious career, finally get to it.
The action icon is teaming with Skydance Television for an untitled television project with designs of becoming an hour-long series that will see Schwarzenegger as the star and executive producer, reports Deadline. The would-be series is being described as “a global spy adventure with a father (Schwarzenegger) and daughter at the center of the story.” While that sounds a bit like the climactic moments of Schwarzenegger’s starring role in director James Cameron’s 1994 classic, True Lies, there’s no indication that the project is an adaptation of any kind.
Nick Santora is the creator of the Schwarzenegger television project, set to develop and executive-produce as part of an existing overall deal with Skydance Television. Best known as the creator/executive producer...

Arnold Schwarzenegger To Star In & EP Spy Adventure Series In Works At Skydance TV From Nick Santora
Exclusive: Skydance Television is developing an original hourlong series headlined and executive produced by Arnold Schwarzenegger in his first major foray into scripted television, I have learned.
Created by Scorpion creator Nick Santora, the series is said to be a global spy adventure with a father (Schwarzenegger) and daughter at the center of the story.
Skydance is expected to take out the project to streamers shortly. I hear preliminary casting is underway for the role of the daughter.
Santora is developing and executive producing the untitled series as part of his overall deal with Skydance Television. He also serves as executive producer/showrunner of the studio’s upcoming Jack Reacher series for Amazon.
Schwarzenegger executive produces the new series along with Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Bill Bost; Carolyn Harris will oversee the project for the company.

It’s been a rough day for The Fugitive‘s Mike Ferro (or by Quibi’s count, a rough 100 minutes or so). Not only was he framed for two bombings — one in the L.A. subway, and another at a courthouse — but the wrongfully accused ex-con was also on the lam for loads of civilian deaths, including that of his parole officer and friend, Kevin Lawson.
Previously, Ferro led the investigation straight to real bomber Colin Murphy’s home with the help of a burner phone that Captain Clayton Bryce and his cronies were tracking, after which Bryce finally pieced...

In 2018, Stefani Robinson made Emmy history as the first Black woman to be recognized for multiple nominations in both the Outstanding Comedy category and in Comedy Writing for her solo-written Atlanta episode “Barbershop”.
Now, the EP and scribe of FX’s comedy series What We Do in the Shadows, she continues to maintain that record with once again, noms in the Outstanding Comedy Series slot, as well as Comedy Writing for her episode “On the Run”.
An Emerson College grad, Robinson began cutting her teeth in TV writing during a summer internship at Comedy Central. Straight out of college, she ultimately landed a desk at a talent agency in the their feature lit department, where she soon found an agent who got her spec script over to FX when they were hiring for Atlanta. Exclusive: Quibi’s struggles since launching in April did not stem from a lack of promotion. As it looks for a rebound after a pause for reassessment, new third-party research provided to Deadline shows the startup is starting to blow the trumpets again, only in a different key.
Looking to break through in a crowded streaming field, Jeffrey Katzenberg’s startup bought multiple TV ad slots on the Super Bowl and the Oscars following a splashy presentation in Las Vegas at CES. The return on that investment hasn’t fully materialized. In its first 90 days, during a free trial period, the streaming app was downloaded 5.6 million times, the company said last month. Only a small percentage of those downloads converted to subscribers paying $5 a month or $8 for an ad-free version.
While it disputes outside gauges of subscriber levels, calling one estimate of an 8% conversion rate of free trials to paid...

After two previous TV shows and a feature film, Boyd Holbrook knew it was time for The Fugitive to chart its own course and move beyond another Dr. Richard Kimble and One-Armed Man. And Quibi’s The Fugitive does exactly that by introducing Holbrook’s Mike Ferro, a convicted felon who’s wrongfully accused of bombing a subway train in Los Angeles. To make matters worse, Ferro has Kiefer Sutherland’s Detective Clay Bryce tracking his every move.
