‘The Changeling’ Trailer: Lakeith Stanfield Stars in Surreal Fairy Tale Directed by Melina Matsoukas
Lakeith Stanfield is undergoing a transformation that only parenthood permits.
Oscar-nominated actor Stanfield stars as a new father in the Apple TV+ limited series “The Changeling,” based on Victor Lavalle’s novel of the same name. The “Atlanta” alum executive produces the eight-episode show about a dad who is pulled into a surreal journey after the birth of his son.
The official logline teases the series as a “fairy tale for grown-ups, a horror story, a parenthood fable and a perilous odyssey through a New York City you didn’t know existed.”
“The Changeling,” which was originally in development at FX back in 2018, is created by Kelly Marcel (writer on the “Venom” films) and directed by Melina Matsoukas (of “Insecure” and “Queen and Slim”). In addition to Stanfield, Adina Porter, Alexis Louder, Clark Backo, and Samuel T. Herring also star.

Variety has released this year’s list of 10 Screenwriters to Watch. A conversation with the honorees will take place on Oct. 17 at the Mill Valley Film Festival. The magazine will also honor Italian helmer-scribe Paolo Sorrentino (“Hand of God”) with the Creative Impact in Screenwriting Award.
The annual 10 to Watch program celebrates breakthrough screenwriters, actors, directors, comics, animators, producers and cinematographers. Some of the screenwriters are being honored for films that have already premiered and received critical acclaim, like “King Richard,” while others, like “Tick, Tick … Boom!,” remain highly anticipated. At least half of the selected films had their production schedules or release dates altered by the pandemic.
The class of 2021’s 10 Screenwriters to Watch includes eight solo honorees and two pairs. Interviews with those being honored in 2021 will be featured in the Oct. 6 issue of Variety.

Randy McKinnon, who broke out writing Disney+’s football drama “Safety,” will write the “Static Shock” script for DC Films and Warner Bros., according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
Michael B. Jordan and Reginald Hudlin will produce the project, which was first revealed during the DC FanDome event last August.
“One of the things we’re really excited about, we really want to live up to the name of the company, Milestone Media,” Hudlin said at FanDome. “When we spoke to Jim [Lee] about reviving the Milestone line, we said, ‘Look, we all know this has been a hit comic book and hit animated series. It’s time to expand back into all those areas and then some.’ So we’re in serious conversations about, as we’re launching the comic book series, developing the ‘Static Shock’ movie. That will be a theatrical feature film.”
