Once again: How Does It Taste?
boblipton16 January 2014
If like me you're annoyed when you buy a ticket for a movie and discover that, among other things, you are paying to look at advertising, think about how people felt when they went into a theater with their families in the early 1950s and saw gamboling, faux-Disney woodland critters urging their youngsters to drink blended whiskey? The work on this advertising cartoon for National Distillers is pitched as a hard sell, with the brand mentioned frequently, as well as its "clear, clean taste" (that means that it doesn't make you gag so you can get drunk fast). Most of the motion is achieved by panning over the background work and the animation shows that this was done fast and cheap --a lot of partial animation and most of the dialogue is spoken off-camera to cut down on the cost of animated the spokesperson's mouth. Unless you have an interest in the history of commercial animation, this is one you should avoid.

Encouraging animals to drink since 1950!
planktonrules9 November 2012
It's really impossible to score this, as although it looks like a children's cartoon, it's actually a nearly 7 minute long ad encouraging the viewer to drink whiskey! So, don't let Junior watch this one! However, I do recommend you watch it simply for its bizarre factor! You've NEVER seen anything like this in your life! The film consists of a badly animated bee rushing about and encouraging all the wild animals to drink PM Picnic Blended Whiskey! No real attempt is made to make this subtle or have any real entertainment value. It's just a weird little cartoon that seems to possibly be recommending viewers start feeling whiskey to their pets or something! All I know is that the advertising folks really seemed to have come up with a lame ad campaign and I would love to know WHERE they showed this film and HOW they expected it would actually help generate sales! Pretty weird, but if you want to see it, it's available for free download at archive.org.
