A penthouse always sounds nice - as did the story for this. I'd say quite intriguing with mystery and all that. But the thriller that is about to unfold here is not worth your time - which can be summed up to a few things that are its downfall.

While I like some of the actors (those you may recognize too, like Michael Pare and Nicholas Torturo), they really are not able to save this ship from sinking (to make another one of my famous puns - well "famous" as some may feel these actors are. Those who know, know) ... slow pacing, predictable and really not worth your time. Don't waste yours because I already wasted mine.

The best part of this movie was when it ended. I can't believe we paid $5.99 to watch it. I want my money back.

😡

I wouldn't normally be mad about losing $1.80, but I spent that at redbox to watch this garbage and I'm irritated. I've seen many horrible movies, but this is by far the absolute worst. It might have been better quality it was shot on a smartphone. The acting was so atrocious that I felt uncomfortable because I was so embarrassed for the cast.

What a terrible STINKER!
psxexperten4 April 2021
No words can describe what a piece of poo this is.

This movie is one of the worst directed, worst written, and worst acted thriller I have seen in awhile. Just skip it and find anything else. The ending, if u can even call it that, makes no sense, basically the movie just stops.

I just don't get what was the whole point, it just sucks so hard that I can't believe this has been done intentionally - surely something went horribly wrong somewhere, there has to be some excuse for the lack of any intelligence.

Reaches a new low....
Novacain200611 April 2021
I don't write many reviews but this movie was so bad in so many ways right from the first frame and opening credits that I had to chime in. Immediately the 1st thing you notice is that the footage running under the opening credits looks like washed out stock footage from the 80s. Sadly this isn't the case and whoever was manning the camera had no idea what he/she was doing. In fact, most of the movie looks this way. Soft picture, dull colors and uncontrolled lighting that seems way too harsh most of the time... From scene to scene the overall look is so inconsistent it just kept me from ever actually caring about the storyline. The acting was also entry level amateur, the cinematography boring and the bargain basement cast of washed up has-been D-movie actors just didn't help at all. This kind of movie may be for some but was just a wasted night for me. I'd call it an exercise in mediocrity except that would be an undeserved compliment.

frank-liesenborgs10 April 2021
You will appreciate other movies if you watch this movie. I wanted to stop watching but had a theory. If this movie continues to be so bad (acting, plot, cinematography etc.) then you will appreciate other movies more. The ones with a good story, plot twist, acting and directing. This is an award winning director supposedly but cannot find any awards?

Great View
nogodnomasters14 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Peter (David Schifter ) and Amanda (Vanessa Ore) live and and own businesses on Carolina Beach. Charles, a grifter (Michael Pare) rolls into town on a sailboat and scams people on home repairs after storm damage. The Wrights have a bird's eye view of the boat. Charles suspects they have seen something he didn't like.

There is a sword on the wall in the opening scene. The film had a horrible plot and poor characters. It was like a bad Lifetime production.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

Solid Movie
napoleanWilson-110 April 2021
A good movie, something that doesn't rely on CGI or explosions, but just goes for a creepy unsettling feel, and Pare is great at this.

Amateur in places but interesting story
LLgoatJ18 April 2021
This feels quite amateur in places. Some of the acting is dodgy in places. It also takes a while to get going. I only kept watching it as my wife wanted to. I am glad I did as it is quite a good story in the end.

Sometimes it is good to watch something that is not a polished Hollywood blockbuster and a bit rough round the edges.

Totally bad and failed
nouyrigatantoine20 April 2021
It's rare to see such a bad movie. The storyline looks like a goofy variation of Rear Window, but it turns out to be a true story set in the penthouse and boat of the case. The dialogues, the situations and the actors are also very bad. To this is added an atrocious staging with absurd connections between the shots, a detestable photograph (the point blur for no reason) and the framing which move without reason and sometimes do not even respect the horizontality. To be avoided, without any interest.

Find something else...anything!
mderoncey19 February 2023
This was the worst movie I I ever watched. I can't believe I actually sat through it. I feel violated, embarrassed and ashamed. Everything about this movie was off. The acting was off, the direction was off, the shots were off, the script was off, everything was just off. It felt like actors were reading the script off while seeing it for the first time. It was like a bad student project from a 6th grader. Just awful. I am no film critic, and don't usually write film reviews, but if I can save one person the humiliation of having to say they actually sat through this stinker, then my job is done.

A Great Big Oof
terrapinmoll15 April 2021
Complete rip off of the plot of Alfred Hitchcock's "Rear Window". There is nothing redeemable about this dumpster fire of a movie. From terrible, unnatural acting by actors nobody has ever heard of, poorly written and delivered dialogue (at least half of which is pointless and unnecessary), music that doesn't fit in most of the movie, to the boring inconsistent cinematography and lighting. This cringe movie is sure to be a tums festival for everyone who has the misfortune of viewing it.

Time waste
Loisviixiii20 June 2021
My boyfriend and I got a chance to get this movie from RedBox for a movie night. And this movie plot summary got me intrigued since I like psychological thriller. And this one was dragging. It has a story. But it is just dragging. Also cinematography looks like an amateur's work.

But hey! Don't get me wrong, the story is interesting. But not as interesting enough to not sleep on. Music scoring - very repetitive. Doesn't have much to feel the movie. It's so dry.

I'm sorry.

This movie was SOOOOO bad! Horrible acting. Horrible directing. Horrible all the way around. I had to check twice to see if this was a old movie! Everything about it took me back to the 80's, ( which is not a good thing) Not even worth the .65 I paid to rent it. AND I wasted a good promotion.... NOT happy at all 😡

Acting?
shahzaibh21 April 2021
A low budget doesn't necessarily mean it's not a movie. A bunch of over-actors trying to create suspense.

Don't waste your time
michelem7036 November 2022
For the love of everyone...do not watch this bad movie. The acting is horrible. The plot is horrible. It was put together so badly that I can't believe someone got away with filming then putting on screen. Save your time and don't spend any money on this horrible flick. It is movies like this that makes me want the time I wasted on it, back. You actually hope the characters get killed so there would be two idiots not walking the planet anymore. I understand there is desperation in taking roles like this but can you really look your self in the mirror and say this movie was worth it. It also makes detectives look completely incompetent and really stupid.

Worth watching
jrbrown-261342 June 2021
Pare was great. Humphrey was great. Interesting plot and a beautiful local. The new actor, Dennis Curran, was also good. Keep a close watch on the credits and the apartment buying couples. Nice touch by the exec producers!

Budget film, so the storyline was perfect
robertkdb10 April 2021
Hitchcockian elements, questionable script at times, but good chemistry and a good vibe throughout. It had a good pace. Glad I watched it: wouldn't watch it again.

A pedigree

Warning: Spoilers
A man covering up a crime assumes a nosy neighbor may have seen what he did, leading him to ruin their life. But how much did they see? That's the story of Massimiliano Cerchi's (Mayday, The House of Evil, Insane) The Penthouse.

Peter (David Schifter) and Amanda (Vanessa Ore) purchase the condo of their dreams, a gorgeous place that is right over the ocean. They become neighbors with the boaters who dock in the shadow of their high-rise, looking at them as their neighbors.

As they watch the comings and goings of a boater named Charles (Michael Paré), they'll soon wish they hadn't seen what looks like him murdering his girlfriend Tess (Krista Grotte Saxon). That's after Charles has gotten into a fight with Peter, framed him for breaking and entering and what could be the absolute worst thing, taken his dog.

Sure, it's Rear Window, but Paré is as intense as always, and that's the kind of movie I love to watch.

Under his other name Alvaro Passeri, Cerchi did the miniatures for Atlantis Interceptors and Fulci's Warriors of the Year 2072, as well as special effects for The Wild Beasts, even serving as the rock sculptor on Caligula, the assistant art director on Tentacles, the assistant production designer for Alien 2: On Earth and the director of Plankton.
