Very interesting film. I saw a NY screening of this. I like how the director correlates an old poem to talk about a modern problem - two young people in the city, in a troubled relationship, who turn to drugs in moments of despair. I LOVE the music, which seems to have a Sephardic influence. I know a lot of music of ancient Spain deals with love and death and I thought this was really beautiful, original and simple. It's nice to see modern filmmakers exploring complicated issues through subtle film-making techniques. There's no need for any fancy effects - the girl's tone of voice and the way it's shot - all grainy and hand-held. Very cool and smartly done - looking forward to this director's future experimental films....
