HORRIFYING AND CHILLING PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER !
SAMTHEBESTEST24 October 2019
BHRAM REVIEW :-

OTT platforms haven't seen horror genre in recent time because the genre is not suitable for underage audience. ZEE5 enters into Horror genre with psychological thriller flavour to gift audience something different in not so popular genre. Bhram is haunting, horrifying and chilling experience from the first frame till the last. It also has some logical medical issues as an explanation to the spiritual things and that makes it so realistic.

Bhram is an interesting tale of an interesting character Alisha Khanna played by Kalki Koechlin. A car accident turns Alisha Khanna's life upside down. The bestselling romance writer moves to Shimla to her sister's place in order to start over. Bhumika Chawla plays Ankita Paul (a sister of Alisha) who is living with her husband Peter Paul (Sanjay Suri). Peter has a friend named Pradeep (Eijaz Khan) who is impressed by Alisha's beauty and writing. However, Alisha starts getting visions of a girl. At first, she dismisses it as hallucinations due to her psychological disorder. However, she finds out that the girl had died 20 years ago. On the pretext of writing a book, she starts investigating into the matter and finds striking evidence which otherwise could never be found. Things point to certain prominent people of the place, but then they end up dying one by one. Alisha doesn't know that she has put her own life in danger. How far will one woman go to give justice to a dead girl? The answer lies in that incident which happened 20 years ago. The incident which shall tell the world - The Other Side of Her story.

Kalki Koechlin looks beautiful and delivers thrilling act. Bhumika Chawla, Sanjay Suri, Eijaz Khan, Satydeep Mishra are also brilliant. Costumes of every character are very talky, especially in terrifying scenes in dark light.

Bhram is set and mostly shot in Shimla and the locations are eye pleasing. Cinematography of Vidhushi Tiwari is top notch. Background Music leaves you with jitters and it is so scary that it forces you to jump from your place. Screenplay is engaging because the story keep unfolding the backdrops and new twists. Director Sangeeth Savan tries something different from his regular flow and succeeds. He bounds the gripping story with proper execution and get everything right in important scenes.

Overall, Bhram has haunting story powered by excellent performances by every actor. Locations, background music and frightening scenes takes it one step higher. It keeps you hooked from the start and never loses that grip untill you're blown away at the end. We recommend you to make your weekend thrilling with this one. Catch Bhram streaming from 24 October 2019, only on ZEE5.

Wasted

Well just as other reviewer has said monotonic... i would say wasted especially talent like Bhumika Chawla... they could have done so much more with such a nice starcast yet they came out with below average story.. shame Zee5..

A decent watch
pranay_misra27 October 2019
Was not expecting much from the trailer but it got me by surprise, i had to watch all episodes together as i was hooked. Kalki is awesome in her as weel as the other actors, actors who played inspector and priest cudve been swapped in roles. Also the young artists were also very good. The scenic beauty was captured beautifully. It is a thriller and not a horror so horror fans keep away. Story is bit predictable in the end but the season has got its heart at the right place and is definitely worth watching.

A good watch
vanvedvv14 April 2020
Could have been better. The plot of series is very interesting and keep you on couch. All the actors in the series were upto mark, esp Kalki.

While few links were weak and unanswered. Like why Father Alfred's girlfriend suicide and what did she want to tell him.

The link of main character, Alisha's accident and loss of memory to 20 years old case has entwined well. The pointing towards the accused changes every episode and quiet convincing.

A short series and a good watch.

WHEN THE PAST COMES CALLING - IT MAY NOT BE A MERE COINCIDENCE, THE PRESENT IS POSSIBLY UNDER THREAT
msunando15 June 2020
Alisha Khanna's (Kalki Koechlin) life turned upside down a year ago due to a road accident that killed her loving husband Yash and her unborn child. She went comatose for sometime and when she revived, she suffered from a partial memory loss and was diagnosed with DID (dissociative identity disorder). Her sister Ankita Paul (Bhumika Chawla) brings her to her idyllic hillside residence in Himachal, hoping that Alisha will recover from her psychological suffering and the writer's block has taken over. It's family time with Ankita, her husband Peter (Sanjay Suri) and their daughter Kritika; Alisha is looking forward to getting back her mojo.

But it doesn't last too long, Alisha starts seeing and feeling the presence of a girl who is trying to tell her something. It's not too long before she is found in the woods, suffering asphyxiation. Simultaneously, a young girl from Kritika's school is found murdered in the woods with a strange wound in her torso - like they have been pierced by a pair of horns. The death brings back the memories of a similar murder 20 years ago, that of another young girl Ayesha - and slowly, skeletons start tumbling out of the cupboard. Prominent people are suddenly in the eye of the storm, and it starts blowing over the Paul family. A local tribal legendary deity, Ukala, shoots to prominence during the investigation.

Bhram doesn't conform to the horror genre. It's a psychological suspense thriller and a murder mystery with a semblance of the supernatural. The events from twenty years ago are intricately related to those unfolding now, and Alisha must was through them, and with the local police, solve the mystery. Kalki is very convincing as Alisha and Bhumika Chawla is solid as support. Sanjay Suri, Satyadeep Misra, Chandan Roy Sanyal and Eijaz Khan weave a canvas of palpable tension, intrigue and suspense. The backdrop of the hills and woods is stunning. Bhram is one of the better suspense productions of recent times, director Sangeeth Sivan, cinematographers Suman Sahu, Vidushi Tiwari and Sandeep Yadav and SFX by Sandeep Kumar Jayaswal are worth an applause.

Very predictive and monotonic
santoshambekar1928 October 2019
The story and the overall concept lacks the intelligence. It's one of the many monotonic stories that you a see in most of the movies. The starcast is the only thing that you would like. I was trying to see if the story will ever pick up anything new but till the end couldn't get any new idea. Unfortunately it becomes boring after the first or the second episode.

Without illusion
rabhy14 May 2020
This series is okay in terms of story but Kalki's performance is excellent, others didn't get better screen time. It is story of Alisha a romance writer who is suffering from PTSD begins to feel presence of a spirit after visiting her Sister. Is it really a presence or just Bhram (illusion)? I didn't like the ending but that's OK

A Nice Story.
lastmanstand29 October 2019
A really nice story, plot is a decent one, but not told the way it should've. It's a little overdramatic. The impact would've been much greater if it was made in a more realistic way, like the classic Mulholland Drive or atleast like Kartik Calling Kartik

Loved it !
prateeksrivastava12 August 2021
Found this hidden gem from 2019 and I must say it is a great series to watch.

Acting - Kalki is awesome as always. Eijaz is also great as Pradeep Chaudhary(I am a big fan of him through City of Dreams). Other supporting cast also acted well, nowhere did any any cast member occur to me as overacting.

Story Time - Well, the best part is 8 episodes with hardly 20 minutes of screen time. It does not feel dragged.

Cinematography - Wow , just wow. You will lose yourself in the jungles, forests and natural beauty of Shimla.

Background music - Pin point accuracy of when to play what kind of music. Not loud but enough to make you feel shocked/surprised during a few scenes.

Suspense - Well, I for one could not figure out who the killer was until the last episode. Of course a few things were predictable but still the director was able to keep the main mystery intact till the very last episode.

My overall rating is 9 !

A horror or a thriller ?
nethupuleems17 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Alisha Khanna is a renowned romance author who was involved in a devastating car accident, resulting in the loss of her husband and unborn child. After recovering from a coma, Alisha travels to her sister's home to confront her painful memories and begin the healing process. However, she soon discovers that strange and inexplicable occurrences are taking place in her sister's home, leaving her to wonder what is happening.

This is the first time I've watched a series or film featuring Kalki Koechlin as the lead actress. Earlier, I had watched Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, where she played a supporting role. Throughout this series, she consistently impressed me with her brilliant acting, despite not having a strong command of Hindi pronunciation. Bhoomika Chawla also delivered a good performance, but her character was somewhat underdeveloped. Eijaz Khan and Sanjay Suri gave their best to their roles, as did Satyadeep Mishra, who did justice to his character. Chandan Roy Sanyal brought both humor and thriller elements to the story through his role. The young actors, Chetan Sharma, Ansh Sinha, Vikram Dwivedi, Ustav Sarkar, and Anjali Tatrari, all delivered remarkable performances in their respective roles. However, the standout performer of the entire series was Vikram Kochhar as Avtar, whose character underwent a striking transformation from positive to negative.

I'm surprised to see that IMDB classifies this series as a horror series. At first, the show appears to be a horror or supernatural series, given the early episodes. However, as the series progresses, it takes a turn towards a mystery/thriller genre.

The cinematography of the series is impressive. The stunning shots of the hills evoke a sense of eeriness.

Meanwhile, the background score by Kingshuk Chakravarty creates a mysterious atmosphere, while the opening theme by Ravi Singhal accomplishes the same feat.

The story was well-crafted in the earlier episodes, making it feel refreshing to watch the series. However, the conclusion felt like a Scooby-Doo cartoon, which was a disappointing departure from the unique tone established earlier. Despite thoroughly enjoying the series, I found that the excitement I felt while watching the prior episodes was lacking in the final episodes. Nevertheless, I appreciate how the entire series is thoughtfully constructed around a supernatural concept like 'Okala'.

Ultimately, 'Bhram' is an absolutely brilliant series that stands out in its unique way. I'm confident that you won't feel bored for a single moment, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves thrillers.

With the rapidly growing OTT sector and the upcoming competition this series is a breath of fresh air. Original in true manner. It was a lovely treat to watch this on the festive weekend. Nothing extra no shot which is irrelevant - concise power packed show. Looking forward to season 2-10 soon.
