- Three years after John Sawyer bade his aged mother goodbye and went to the Klondike, Mrs. Sawyer is reduced to abject poverty through a lawyer's dishonesty and makes her abode in an attic. One day while she's picking up chips of wood and pieces of coal in the street, she is tormented by a crowd of boys. Jimmy, a little newsboy, suddenly rushes into their midst and rescues her; he takes her basket and helps her get home. A few weeks later, Mrs. Sawyer is ejected from this attic when she is unable to pay the rent. At this time, John returns, having made a fortune. Failing to find his mother in their little cottage, he is walking away when Jimmy happens along and recognizes him from a photograph Mrs. Sawyer had shown him. Jimmy rushes up and tells John where his mother is, and together they hurry to the poor little room to find she had left it. John is nearly in despair, but Jimmy cheers him up and they walk back to the little cottage, where they find her just about ready to give up the battle of life. There is a happy reunion. John re-purchases the cottage and Jimmy becomes one of the household.—Moving Picture World synopsis
