An enjoyable, macabre story.

Bea decides to pit her wits against Watson's, whilst the team hunt for a mysterious young girl, who's killing and mutilating men.

Good, but perhaps not as good as the previous episode, was I a little out out by the characterisations of beloved favourites, Inspector Lestrade.... Horrible, Mrs Hudson...Horrible, Watson...Vile, Holmes.... Weak.

Was that what was clouding my opinion? Maybe.

I loved how macabre this was, this is the type of content I had expected, however the tone is focused for a certain audience, whereas the nonsense of the regulars is focused more towards a drama for young teens, it's very peculiar. Who is the target audience?

Overall, I enjoyed it, I think if I was aged twelve, k would love it. Very watchable though, 7/10.

One and Done for Inspector Lestrade

Well another bit of Sherlock Holmes mythos is dispatched without much fanfare as Inspector Lestrade is introduced, and he turns out to be a major bigot. Apparently all the adults in the world of The Irregulars are the scum of the earth. No good people here.

The girl who is slicing up locals and cutting the faces off to make skin masks is the real victim here. Jessie (played by Darci Shaw) confronts the killer on two occasions, and gives her a free pass both times. Jessie feels that the killer is justified, so it is alright to murder five people. The fact that Inspector Lestrade was rude to Jessie may have added to her desire to allow the girl to go free to kill again. Jessie is a pretty nasty character.

Mrs. Hudson, who was once the landlord and servant to Sherlock Holmes in the kinder era of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is now introduced as a heartless slumlord who is as filthy and nasty as everyone else. Apparently nobody ever takes a bath in the world of The Irregulars.

Chapter Four: Both the Needle and the Knife

Warning: Spoilers
Shades of The Silence of the Lambs and Face/Off.

People are dying and slicing their faces off. The purported sighting of a suspect is of a man who died earlier.

It all points to a young woman who was abused by some pub regulars. She is taking revenge and wearing their faces as a skin mask.

A dark episode highlighting the fantastical nature of The Irregulars.

It all gets lost on the grimy nastiness of the Sherlock Holmes characters. If Dr Watson is unpleasant, here so are Inspector Lestrade and Mrs Hudson. The writers forgot that people might be attracted to this show because of its Holmes link.

Lestrade regards people with special powers as freaks, that is an attitude that should not come as a surprise of a person rather straightlaced.

At least there is something more than a glimpse of Sherlock Holmes in this episode.
