When Jen keeps hearing the sound of the freezer where she's keeping Steve's body getting louder and louder even when she closes the door or is in another room, it's reminiscent of Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Tell-Tale Heart", where the narrator kills an old man, burries his body under the floorboards and yet keeps hearing a thumping sound getting louder as if it's the dead man's heartbeat. Those sounds represent the killers' sanity, state of mind & guilty conscience.
Natalie Morales, who plays Michelle, is actually of Cuban descent
Although many overt product placement shots feature fictional brands from Independent Studio Services, the bottle of Empathy wine that Jen wields when she discovers just in the garage is an actual brand of wine.
