Early TV try at a heartfelt Holiday episode. Some moments are funny. Some are touching. Others, a little forced. But it all seems done with sincerity.

Pleasant Thanksgiving Themed Episode
jpdoulos21 July 2023
As other reviewers have pointed out, this is not a standout episode. The dad acts like a real jerk to the point it is out of character.
But I gave this episode a score of 9 to counter the ridiculous score of 1 given to it by "strictlyconfidential." He admits outright that he gave it this low of a score solely because of the brief religious prayer at the end (It's a Thanksgiving-themed episode, for crying out loud).
If he's that incensed over such a brief religious expression, that's his problem, but it is not a fair and honest review to give it a 1 based on that alone. TV shows have people say things all the time that I personally disagree with, yet I try to give a fair review based on all of its merits.

Out of Character

Warning: Spoilers
Kathy Anderson has won a prize for her Thanksgiving poem, and Jim is so proud. However, After hearing Betty recite the poem, Jim is disappointed that the poem is so childish, and he shares his opinion with Margaret, Betty and Bud. Kitten overhears his scathing remarks and is understandably upset. Things go from bad to worse when Kathy is asked to read the poem on a local television program.
This episode is really off. Jim's attitude about Kathy's poem is ridiculous; even if he truly considered his daughters verse doggerel, he would never say it out loud. This episode reminded me of the radio show, and it made me wonder if it was recycled from one of the old scripts from that program (the Anderson's on the radio show behaved quite differently than they do on the television version).
The one redeeming part of this episode is Jim's sweet thanksgiving prayer that closes the episode. If you are bingeing 'Father Knows Best', you can skip this one (unless you are curious to see Jim Anderson behaving like a selfish jerk).

No Thanks To "Thanksgiving Day"

I thought that "Thanksgiving Day" was a real dud.
Yes. This episode started out alright, but it eventually deteriorated into a dinner-time religious sermon which really turned me off in a big way.
I know that the Andersons were a church-going clan, but this episode really pushed religiousness too far for my liking.
