Pushing boundaries with its mean-spirited spoof of Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990) and star Tori Spelling, the show came under fire from her father, Hollywood mogul Aaron Spelling, who was producing three shows for the Fox Network at the time. Threatening legal action for copyright infringement and defamation, the senior Spelling demanded a public apology and the master tapes of the episode. The Edge's producer's didn't back down, and ultimately nothing came of it.
Aaron Spelling was so appalled by this show's parody of "Beverly Hills 90210" - because it defamed his daughter Tori, who starred as Donna Martin on the latter series - that he nearly sued David Mirkin over the matter.
