Kendall Nicole Yakshe is the youngest person to have been in a Starkid show. Her acting coach, Curt Mega, was also in the show and suggested she audition because they needed someone young for the role of Hannah.
In addition to their usual tactic of filming attended performances, StarKid also filmed "pick-up shots" with an onstage camera operator and an empty audience. This resulted in a much more close-up style than their usual filmed shows. Because of this new approach, it took longer to release the video online than it usually takes the group to do so. In December 2019, they announced a February 2020 release, but did not provide a specific date. The video ended up being released on February 29 at 10:00 PM Pacific time, meaning that for half of the continental United States, it was already March.
"Black Friday" was originally staged at the Hudson Mainstage Theatre in Los Angeles, California from October 31 to December 3, 2019.
Originally, The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals actress Mariah Rose Faith was meant to play the role of Lex Foster. However, due to scheduling issues the role was given to Angela Giarratana so Mariah could play the role of Regina George in the US touring production of Mean Girls: The Musical.
