Leonardo DiCaprio’s career credits proved a long time ago that the actor is always down for challenging acting roles, however physically difficult they may be.
Starting from Titanic’s freezing waters and ending with an almost authentic survival period during filming The Revenant, also complemented by the actor’s real-life accidents like the exploded wing of his plane to Russia or a miraculous escape from a shark in South Africa — it seems like Leonardo DiCaprio is prepared for any unexpected twist of his life or career.
Though at some point the actor indeed felt like life had been training him for one particular situation when it came to rescuing his beloved dogs.
In one of his interviews while promoting his 2021’s black comedy film Don’t Look Up DiCaprio alongside colleagues Jennifer Lawrence, Jonah Hill and director Adam McKay revealed that the skills that he had acquired during years and...

Last month, non-profit group Good Energy launched what it called a Bechdel Test for Climate Change, a simple set of criteria designed to determine if it was clear climate change was present in a film. The real Allison Bechdel even endorsed it.
As part of the “Climate Reality Check,” just three movies nominated for Oscars this year passed the test’s two simple rules: “Climate change exists” and “a character knows it.” Now a more extensive study published by Good Energy and Colby College’s Buck Lab for Climate and Environment has analyzed 250 of the top grossing movies between 2013 and 2022 under the same criteria.
Global warming has been with us for a while now, but only 12.8 percent — 32 of the 250 films studied in that time span — even passed the first criteria saying that climate change exists. Only 24 films, or 9.6 percent, passed both criteria of the test.

Martin Scorsese’s long-suffering biopic about Frank Sinatra has yet to go through some more circles of hell for the definite approval by the legendary singer’s family, but the chances that the movie is happening after all are quite high — at least the director is determined to bring the project to life.
The film already has an impressive duo of Hollywood’ favorites in the leading roles, but this is exactly the reason why Scorsese’s epic movie has all risks to give some really weird vibe after the 2021’s box office hit.
The production is still far from being started, but Scorsese was quick to find his seemingly perfect duo — Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence are already confirmed to portray Frank Sinatra and his wife Ava Gardner respectively.
Both actors are not strangers to each other as they once shared the screen in Adam McKay’s 2021 apocalyptic black comedy...

Jennifer Lawrence has quite a few fun stories in her collection, and in one of them, she did something gross at the Oscars after the party of the legendary music artist Madonna. But the cherry on the cake was that it allegedly happened in front of Miley Cyrus. Needless to say, there is a controversy between Miley and Jennifer surrounding the former’s ex Liam Hemsworth.
Lawrence once implied that she and Hemsworth had locked lips with behind the scenes. People soon started speculating that their kiss coincided with Liam’s on-again-off-again relationship with Miley, making them believe he might have cheated on the Flowers songstress. Martin Scorsese fans might have experienced a bit of deja vu after Variety exclusively reported that a Frank Sinatra biopic is one of two films the Oscar-winning director is planning to shoot back to back. The other is a movie about Jesus, the director’s second after 1988’s “The Last Temptation of Christ.” But it’s the Sinatra biopic that has long been a white whale of sorts for Scorsese.
Per Variety’s report, Scorsese’s Sinatra movie is eyeing his longtime muse Leonardo DiCaprio to star as the crooner — and the actor’s “Don’t Look Up” co-star Jennifer Lawrence to play his second wife, the famous Hollywood actress Ava Gardner (who factored into Scorsese’s “The Aviator” and was played by Kate Beckinsale). Sony is reportedly the frontrunner to nab the project, which Scorsese once tried and failed to get off the ground several years ago.

Martin Scorsese is ol’ blue-eyeing a big new project.
Variety reports that Scorsese is developing a Frank Sinatra biopic that will star Leonardo DiCaprio as the legendary crooner and Jennifer Lawrence as movie star Ava Gardner, Sinatra’s second wife. It would be the Oscar-winning director’s seventh film with DiCaprio and a reunion for DiCaprio and Lawrence, who worked together on the Best Picture-nominated dark comedy “Don’t Look Up.”
The 81-year-old filmmaker plans to tackle the Sinatra biopic after “Life of Jesus,” his independently financed religious film that is expected to go into production this year. (Variety notes that “Silence” star Andrew Garfield and “Top Gun: Maverick” actor Miles Teller are up for potential roles in that project.)

Martin Scorsese is taking on biopics of both Jesus and a music god: Frank Sinatra.
The Oscar-winning auteur is rumored to be once more developing a biopic based on the legendary crooner — a project Scorsese’s been associated with before — with longtime collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio in talks to portray Ol’ Blue Eyes himself. Variety reported the news. DiCaprio recently starred in Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” and also led other Scorsese-helmed biopics like “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “The Aviator.”
Variety noted that Frank Sinatra’s daughter Tina Sinatra controls her father’s estate and hasn’t yet approved a film adaptation of his life story. However, Scorsese is already looking to cast both DiCaprio and fellow Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence in the film, with Lawrence portraying screen star Ava Gardner, who was Sinatra’s second wife after Nancy Barbato. Lawrence and DiCaprio co-starred in “Don’t Look Up.

Timothée Chalamet has proven twice within just the last three months that he is a true movie star. He’s one of the few young actors right now who can open a movie, whether it’s a family-friendly romp like “Wonka” or a sci-fi epic like “Dune: Part Two.”
That both of those were released by Warner Bros. is motivation for the studio to lock his services down as best they can. And so they have.

After making her mark at the age of 20 in The Hunger Games, Lawrence went from strength to strength, showcasing her abundant talent in films like Joy, Silver Linings Playbook, and Don’t Look Up.
Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games
Her powerful performance in Silver Linings Playbook won the celebrity an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role when she was just 22 years old. While this is an extraordinary feat in itself, Lawrence continues to hold another 11-year Oscar record by being the only actor born in the 90s to have received the golden statuette for Best Actress till date.

Greenhouse has its two leads in place as Adam McKay looks to tackle global warming in his follow-up to 2021’s Don’t Look Up.
Adam McKay’s last film was the star-studded Netflix comedy drama Don’t Look Up. The film was widely viewed on the streaming platform and lots of folks enjoyed its satirical take on the way the human race might reasonably be expected to respond if an Extinction Level Event chanced to head in our general direction.
For one reason or another, however, Adam McKay’s plans for a further collaboration with Netflix were dropped. The Vice filmmaker had announced the serial killer comedy drama Average Height, Average Build as his next project. The cast had been named too, with Robert Pattinson, Amy Adams, Robert Downey Jr, Forest Whitaker and Danielle Deadwyler set to form the kind of starry ensemble that McKay was able to bring together for Don’t Look Up.

Timothée Chalamet first revealed in September 2022 that his “Don’t Look Up” co-star Leonardo DiCaprio once gave him brief but essential career advice: “No hard drugs and no superhero movies.” DiCaprio has never gone down the comic book movie route, and it’s a path Chalamet has also avoided so far despite the majority of his contemporaries signing up for Marvel and DC films in recent years.
Is Chalamet still committed to DiCaprio’s advice? In a recent interview with The New York Times while on the press tour for “Dune: Part Two,” Chalamet said the door on starring in comic book movies is not completely shut the way it might be for DiCaprio.
“Well, Leonardo DiCaprio said to me, ‘No superhero movies, no hard drugs.’ Which I thought was very good,” Chalamet said. “I follow them both! But the movie that made me want to act is a superhero movie,...

I share my colleague Pete Hammond’s fascination with Cord Jefferson’s BAFTA win for his screenplay adaptation, American Fiction. It is no small thing for a self-consciously American story to win a very British award against competition as formidable as Christopher Nolan, especially for a debut film.
Pete has a point when he notes that American Fiction, based on Percival Everett’s novel Erasure, about a black novelist who hits it big when his send-up of African-American cultural clichés is taken at face value, probably got traction as the only currently Oscar-nominated adaptation that is all about writing.
Fair enough. But I’d go one step more.
In fact, American Fiction is the only Oscar-nominated script that takes a serious bite out of contemporary socio-political reality.
The rest, even that wild pink feminist fly-by Barbie, which does get tangled in reality, are in a sense doing what the phrase-coining...

A Joe Biden-Donald Trump rematch this year hasn’t exactly excited American voters, at least if you believe early polls. On the other hand, a dramatic Jed Bartlet (Martin Sheen) vs. Janie Orlean (Meryl Streep) face-off could lead to record turnout at the ballot box and the box office.

Lionsgate has acquired domestic rights to the Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lily James and Himesh Patel comedy “Greedy People.”
The film explores what happens when the eccentric residents of a small, picturesque island town are faced with a sensational murder and the discovery of $1 million next to the body. This sparks a series of increasingly bad decisions that do a number on the peace and tranquility of the community.
“’Greedy People’ is a hugely entertaining crime thriller in every way,” said Allison Lynch, Lionsgate’s director of acquisitions and co-productions. “Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lily James, and Himesh Patel lead an incredible cast through twists and turns that range from the hilarious to the horrific – and the movie always keeps you guessing.”
The film’s starry ensemble also features Uzo Aduba (“Orange is the New Black”), Tim Blake Nelson (“The Ballad of Buster Scruggs”), Jim Gaffigan (“Chappaquiddick”) and Simon Rex (“Red Rocket”).

For a while, it seemed as though Netflix’s sole focus was to become the first streaming service to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. With the releases of “Maestro,” “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “The Power of the Dog,” “Don’t Look Up,” “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” “Marriage Story,” “The Irishman,” “Roma,” “Mudbound,” “Beasts of No Nation,” and others, many in entertainment felt that the streaming service that disrupted the entire industry was trying to backdoor its way into the good graces of Hollywood by releasing prestige pictures in theaters. Then, as the entire movie theater business was still trying to get back on its feet following the Covid-19 pandemic shutdowns, Netflix put “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” into theaters — for an admittedly limited amount of time. However, it appears that the days of the world’s largest streamer making massive efforts to release its films in cinemas might be over.

Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail assembled an impressive cast for his thriller Leave the World Behind that included Julia Roberts (Homecoming), Ethan Hawke (The Black Phone), and Mahershala Ali (True Detective) – but he also delivered a divisive movie that earned reactions that ranged from “wildly riveting and entertaining” and “absolutely amazing” to “hideously bad” and “absolutely awful”. JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray gave the film a 5/10 review that you can read at This Link. I would have scored it higher, I was just left wanting a little more from the ending. Scott Stuber is leaving Netflix. The chairman of Netflix film since 2017, he will be leaving in March to start his own media company.
This has been in the works for some time, as rumors were rampant he had a different philosophy than Netflix toppers, whose prime focus has always been to make premium movies to be consumed by streaming. Other streamers have evolved into a theatrical first window for many of their big budget films, as Apple did in securing traditional distributors to globally release films like Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon. While Netflix has acquired some posh theaters in qualifying cities like New York and Los Angeles, its business plan is mainly global streaming without the giant P&a spend needed for films to do big movie house grosses.
Stuber will stay to help the transition, and then Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria will oversee things until a permanent replacement is secured.

The Golden Globes have now come and gone, with the organization awarding “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Things” their night’s two Best Picture categories. Now, our attention turns to the Screen Actors’ Guild Awards, whose big prize comes in the form of Best Ensemble.
“Oppenheimer” is again expected to take home that award while we are also predicting that “Barbie,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Poor Things,” and “The Color Purple” will be nominated. In the six years since the film academy’s music branch first incorporated 15-candidate shortlists into their annual Oscar nominations voting process, a total of 24 films have each been named semi-finalists for both Best Original Score and Best Original Song. This includes five 2023 releases – “American Symphony,” “Barbie,” “The Color Purple,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” – which constitute one of the largest groups of double dippers so far. Whether each will ultimately be nominated for both, one, or neither of the music awards remains to be seen, but some insight can be gained by analyzing the fates of their 19 predecessors.
Last year, the roster of dual music shortlist entrants grew by four with the inclusion of “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” and “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.” Those films all subsequently became Oscar nominees in some capacity,...

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire has kicked off with viewing numbers that suggest a solid start to an original franchise.
Netflix announced Tuesday that the science fiction fantasy was the most viewed title on the streaming giant following its debut the night of Dec. 21, generating 23.9 million views in three (plus a few hours) days.
The numbers are a solid kickoff for the movie, which doesn’t have big A-listers and is flying on the strength of the filmmaking brand of Snyder, who is best known for directing DC superhero movies such as Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and his Justice League film.
Rebel Moon was the bright star of the week for Netflix. For comparison’s sake, the next most viewed title was the sci-fi-tinged Leave the World Behind, the drama starring Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke and Mahershala Ali and produced by the Obamas,...
