Sex & Nudity

  • There are absolutely no scenes of a sexual nature or characters depicted nude in this video game. The graphics are too cartoonish for the characetrs to even be considered sexy, and there are no lude comments or references to any of characters' sexualities. There's the odd harmless comment of people referring to others as "cute", but that's about as close as it gets.

Violence & Gore

  • The game is played by progressing through battles, and your way to victory is by pummeling or slicing enemies with weapons such as swords, axes, knives, fists and spears. However, it is not graphic violence. There is no blood in this game, although there are a few references, with all Suikoden games you are expected to "imagine" that characters are bleeding after a battle, gore effects are never used in these games. The monsters are very comical looking and the graphics on the goodies and baddies are very simplified. The animation of their movements is quite detailed, in how they shift from one technique to the next as they carry out consecutive attacks, but overall the combat is not brutal. It does contain the theme of a violent and tragic war story, but in a very light-hearted manner.

Profanity

  • The rudest words in this game are "crap" and "bastards". One of the minor characters says "crap" when he is defeated (it is in a taxt box, not actually uttered by a voice actor) The word "barstard" is used to refer to the enemy forces whome you are fighting against, and it is actually said by a voice actor, so you hear it as well as read it. There is a lot of conflict in this game as it is set in war-torn lands, but it often refers to people's hatred of fighting rather than of the enemies. There are mild threats used in the dialogue, but there is also a lot of redemption and reconciliation between certain characters.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • This kind of stuff is usually kept to a minimum in Suikoden games. There are scenes of rowdy pirates who seem like they enjoy a good drink, but as in most fantasy stories, pirates are depicted as characters that kids wouldn't really want to aspire to. And the graphics are just too simple to show drugs being used in detail.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There are quite a few tragic scenes in this game, including people being killed by magical powers, characters watching their parents die and even kids being beaten and killed. But with the graphics being very simplified, even young audiences probably wouldn't take these scenes too seriously. All Suikoden games contain intense and dramatic scenes, but they also play heavily into character development and people sympathising with eachother. The tragic scenes are used to convey themes of friendship and loyalty. The monsters in this game are not frightening at all, they look very silly.
