If someone had told you in 1992 that MTV's resident jock, Dan Cortese, would be reincarnated into similarly musclebound, one-speed characters on some of the most successful television programs over the next 15 years (Seinfeld, 8 Simple Rules, Melrose Place), you probably would have been too busy huffing spray paint and listening to Sonic Youth's Dirty to care. The reality is that Dan Dan: The Whopper Man has gotten more television lives than any MTV host deserves, most recently in My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad and Superstars. Tonight, Cortese gets another chance to commentate in wrap-around sunglasses as the the co-host of ABC's new Crash Course.

CBS' broadcast of the NCAA men's basketball tournament title game was on par with last year and dominated Monday's primetime ratings.
Continuing CBS' Monday winning streak, the overtime win by Kansas over Memphis was seen by an average of 19.5 million viewers and registered a 7.3 rating/19 share among adults 18-49. Last year's game had a 7.2 rating. CBS led into the contest with comedy repeats that placed second in the 8 p.m. hour.
For the 26 telecasts of the entire tournament, the ratings were the second-lowest ever, averaging 8.8 million viewers, down 8% from last year.
ABC came in second place for the night, with its reality hit Dancing With the Stars the second-highest-rated program (20 million viewers, 4.8/13). At 9:30 p.m., the freshman sitcom Samantha Who? returned to the air slightly lower than in its previous season average (11 million, 3.5/8). Bachelor: London Calling was on par (7.2 million, 2.6/7).
NBC was third, with the season (and likely series) finale of My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad (4.5 million, 1.3/4), followed by Deal or No Deal (10.2 million, 2.9/7) and Medium (10.7 million, 3.4/9).

Yup, ABC's veteran newsmagazine led the night with its two-hour look at the British royal family.
The special presentation bested Fox's two-hour Terminator finale and NBC's game shows. In 20/20: The Royal Family (14.2 million viewers, 3.7 adults 18 to 49 rating and a 9 share according to preliminary Nielsen returns), a documentary film crew followed Queen Elizabeth II and other British royalty for more than a year. The strong lead-in didn't help October Road, (5.3 million, 1.9/5) however.
Fox tied ABC for the first-place overall nightly demo average, with back-to-back episodes of "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" (7.7 million, 3.0/8 and 8.2 million, 3.3/8). The final hour jumped to post the show's best performance in three weeks.
Second-place NBC tried My Dad is Better Than Your Dad (7.3 million, 2.4/6) in the 8 p.m. slot, moving Deal or No Deal (10.8 million, 3.1/8) to 9 p.m. Without the Deal lead-in, "Dad" came in third place for the hour and was down 23% from its two-week average at 9 p.m.

NBC has slotted two new reality series from Mark Burnett.
The family competition series My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad will succeed American Gladiators in the 8 p.m. Monday slot beginning Feb. 18, while the comedy quiz show Amnesia will take over the 8 p.m. Friday slot Feb. 29, following a Feb. 22 debut at 9 p.m., after the season finale of 1 vs. 100.
NBC's original scheduling plan had another reality series, The Baby Borrowers, airing in the 8 p.m. Monday slot after Gladiators ends its run. But NBC executives are said to have gotten excited about "Dad" following the show's first taping over the weekend. Because of its format as a high-energy competition, it was deemed a better fit out of Gladiators than the social experiment Baby Borrowers.
Hosted by Dan Cortese, "Dad" features fathers and their son or daughter competing against other teams. The show, created by Jon Hotchkiss, is produced by Reveille, Mark Burnett Prods. and Hotchkiss Industries. Burnett, Mark Koops, Howard T. Owens, Mike Nichols and Jon Hotchkiss are the executive producers.
