- There are a few instances of quick flashes or side shots of breasts not entirely covered (no obvious nipple shots).
- "Dolls"- both men and women (humans who have been technologically programmed to lose their will), are frequently programmed to have sex and fulfill fantasies for paying clients. Therefore, dolls are having performing 'unconscious' sex. No detailed or extended scenes are shown, but sex is frequently infered, sexual language or suggestive body language and seduction is portrayed.
- Men and women are seen from the shoulders up taking showers in a communal setting in several episodes.
- The main character and female characters are frequently shown in revealing attire or sexual attire (ie. a dominatrix outfit , low cut clothing or lingerie, etc.,.) through out a number of episodes.
- Men are seen shirtless in a number of the episodes.
Violence & Gore

- A few episodes show people's faces being slashed up and dead bodies covered in graphic slash wounds.
- Characters frequently experience traumatic physical and psychological pain when they are being programmed and their memories torn or replaced from them.
- Gun violence, martial arts, and physical altercations are frequent in every episode, usually with minimal blood.
- A supporting character is seen with a serious gash scar across her face in every episode.
- In two episodes, domestic violence and control are prominent issues. In each, the man is shown repeatedly physically abusing his wife or girlfriend to get her to comply to his demands.

- Alcohol is not frequent during most of the first season. The second, however, shows a woman steadily becoming dependent on the substance.

- Thematically, the concept of the Dollhouse contains a lot of mature themes regarding interpersonal relationships and human ethics that could be deemed disturbing to viewers. Themes such as forced prostitution, domestic violence, corporate drug and technological testing on human subjects, PSTD and much, much more.

Sex & Nudity
- SPOILER: It is discussed that a character is being raped by their caretaker/ "handler" (as the guardian of the dolls are called). In this episode the character is seen with a dress on but no bra as she walks into a scenario that is going to lead to a rape. She then protests to the offender and the scene ends without any further physical sexual advance occurring.
- SPOILER: In one of the episodes it is discussed that one of the dolls is having erections in the presence of another doll. His overseers then review video survellience footage of his nude showers spanning several months to identify how long ago the erections began. Only upper shoulders of those in showers are seen.
Violence & Gore
- SPOILER: In one of the early episodes, a man forces his girlfriend to flee so that he can hunt her with a bow and arrow for sport.
