Lampert Shows Her Stuff
dougdoepke26 September 2019
I'll leave a plot recap to fellow reviewer kapel. As expected from the series it's a strongly acted half-hour, especially Lampert as the quirky Norma. She's really quite riveting as an unpredictable daughter with simmering anger at the world. Too bad the actress never had the career her talent deserved. Chapman too does well as the conniving Farley. Between them that romantic roll on the floor, or should I say roll in the hay, goes about as far as TV censorship of the period would allow. It's surprising given an "Ozzie and Harriet" 1958. And look for drama radio queen Carlon as the emotionally torn mother. Anyway, Garland's Casey doesn't really have much to do, except to get insulted by Norma. Also, don't look for any NYC locales since the drama unfolds indoors. Nonetheless, it's a solid entry in an unfortunately neglected series.

***SPOILERS**** Providing 24 hour around the clock police protection for Mrs. Hart, Fran Corlon, who's to testify against hoodlum James Anderson, Lee Bergere, for threatening her life policewoman Casey Jones, Beverly Garland, gets involved with her club foot daughter Norma, Zohra Lampert, who holds her responsible for her father's death, he died from over drinking,as well as her being born deformed. As Casey soon learns this hatred of her mom is the reason she's been getting those crank or threatening phone calls and is soon to get involved in the robbery of her place of work, an industrial diamond firm, by her lover and Anderson's fellow crook "Handsome Howard" Farley, Lonny Chapman.

It was "Handsome Howard" who took advantage of poor Norma's plight in being for a better word "damaged goods" by marrying her and then using her as a pasty to stage a robbery of her mother's office of some $70,000.00 in industrial diamonds. It's when Casey Jones finds out about "Handsome Howard's" plan she spills the beans about him not really loving her but using her to rob her mom's place of work! And even worse her mom tells her the truth about her drunken and abusive father who by in his drunken state throwing her up in the air when she was six months old that resulted, when she landed on the ground, in her club foot condition!

****SPOILERS**** Not going along with "Handsome Howard's" plan to get the security of her mom's office to leave so he and Anderson can pull off the robbery unabated the two get blasted by the police and she finally overcomes her hatred for her mother. That Norma not only blamed for her father's death, who's heavy drinking ended up killing him, but her club foot that she flat she was born with. Not really knowing that it was her father who was responsible for it. And best of all she didn't end up an accomplice in the office robbery that both "Handsome Howard" and Anderson tried to get her involved in!
