"The Attic of Terror" was written by Edward Walker Capps, for a contest sponsored by Floyd Gibbons entitled "Your True Adventure". The winner received a gold watch and $500, and the winning story was the first to be made into a Vitaphone film. Edward appears at the end of the movie receiving the gold watch. The original title was "I Slept With a Dead Man" and was also called "Capps and the Corpse".
