Sam Corbett is an old fashioned Northerner, he's made to move into his daughter Doris's home, when his house is demolished. Sam is rough and ready, a real contrast to his son in law, Arthur, who's a bit of a social climber.
It's a really nice comedy, a tale of misery to happiness. Sam is a great character, he'd drive you nuts. It was a different time back then, rough and ready humour, I find it interesting how those flats were viewed as being luxurious and cosmopolitan, not easy to believe when you saw them twenty years later.
Clive Dunn was only 56, hard to believe, he looked so much older then he actually was, Hardwicke shockingly was only fourteen years his junior. Dunn was clearly a hard working man, doing this and Dad's Army at the same time. He was a terrific character actor.
It's a fine start. 8/10
